Mountain Biking Whoopdee

*****   Add a review
#8 of 307 mountain bike trails in Oregon
#203 in the world

Most enjoy Whoopdee riding counter-clockwise. Ride 0.25 miles south on gravel road where singletrack starts off left. The Whoopdee trail is a great mix of flowy, undulating track with short climbs (except for the climb out) and fast descents. Towards the bottom of the loop, there are a series of fast roller coaster-like drops followed by immediate steep climbs. There's nothing incredibly technical and beginner's can enjoy this trail too. The climb out to the parking lot is about 30 minutes of singletrack switchback to the parking lot. NOTE: this land is owned by Stevenson Land Company who has graciously allowed non-motorized use so it behooves the rider to be on their best behavior when riding. From time to time, the trail will close for logging and some sections may be closed or re-routed. Check out www.hrats.org (Hood River Area Trail Stewards) for updates.

To ride the trail counter clockwise turn right from parking area and ride up the road about 1/8 mile. Entrance will be on the left.

This trail seriously rocks! I would say about half of it is pedaling through undulating, flowy terrain; another quarter is made of fast, sustained downhill; and the last quarter is the 30-ish minuted climb out to the parking lot. It's all singletrack except for one small section of service road connecting to the trail that climbs out. There's good signage throughout so you really can't get lost. Trail is on private property so prepare ahead for re-routes or closures and mind your manners. Trail is no longer closed

This trail was nothing like the other trails I've riden in the gorge. It starts you off by surfing and carving well thought out burms and hitting the ocational speed section. Close to the bottom of the trail you find yourself challenge with very friendly yet incredibly steep creek drops (which fail or not are super fun). After the wooded sections that follow the bottom of a valley you wind into a rather exciting clearing with a melody of light jumps and tight turns. The trail ends by heading uphill along a beautiful hillside that will captivate you so much you won't remember your riding uphill. All in all you'll get a great workout and be smiling the whole time!

super fun - flowy, fast sections with lots of cornering, some 3 giant 50 foot compressions, burms and jumps. trail on climb out is not too bad.

Great intermediate trail. Dirt is getting somewhat pounded exposing more rocks and roots than when less dusty. Easy trail all things considered. Nothing too technical. Perfect way to spend a hour and a half as training for more difficult rides / longer climbs.

Great trail; however, I'm not sure who categorized this trail as "Beginner." The beginner riders I know would have had a very hard time on this trail. The "Puke Hill" portion was of course steep and lengthy; however, after that the trail was overgrown with brush, and the trail was rain-rutted out in a lot of place. Not the most fun riding. When I got to the main parking spot, the fun began. From the parking lot, you ride another 100 yards or so, and the main trail begins on the left. 10 miles of awesome trail. The end of the ascent out of the loop brings you out at the parking lot. Not being used to large whoop-de dos, I had a hard time with them. One was particularly steep in descent and crazy-steep on ascent. For me, the best portion of the trail was before the whoop-de dos, where there is rolling single track through high bushes and forest. Absolutely incredible. Lots of riders there. I would recommend skipping the "Puke Hill" portion and just park in the parking lot and do the loop. It's more than enough to entertain any rider. And, as mentioned earlier, this should be categorized "Intermediate."

Easy to find and a new trailhead parking lot.

The trail is mostly single track. Sweet downhill to start then some gentle climbs and more down hill.
At the end it is a climb to get back to the car.
Roughly 8-10 miles for the loop.
There are new trails being added slowly.

Please be respectful as this is private lands
