Mountain Biking Wolf Creek Trails
#138 of 300 mountain bike trails in Virginia
The is one of the finest pure wilderness mountain bike trail systems in the South! The Forest Service has done a superb job of creating 7 main contour loop trails along the top of the mountain with some fantastic and long singletrack descents along the north and south sides of the mountain. Corkscrew and Salamander Trails are two of the longest and most fun downhills anywhere with plenty of flow, rocks, speeed, and technical challenge. These trails are relatively new with nearly no one around and your are more likely to see deer, turkey, and bear than you are other riders. Much like Pisgah but even more wild!

Four separate trailheads in Jefferson National Forest just minutes from the Bastian, Virginia exit on Interstate I-77. Just look for the tiny "Round Mountain Road" sign on Route 52 or go up Hunting Camp Creek Rd out of Bastian and go about 4 miles to a Forest Service Road toward Burke's Garden. Trailhead parking at several spots along the climb up Round Mountain.
System trails (1)
This trail system can be quite fun to ride if you know were to start and where the single track is. If you start on Wolf Creek side (recommended) you will cross a wooden bridge to trails. First mile is technical and rocky; narrow, steep and one section of hike-a-bike. Stay left at fork. Once this section is over then you are on Corkscrew; a long 4 mile climb that will take you about an hour or so to climb. This trail is much less technical and has the biggest, longest rock garden I have ever seen. Rocks as big as table tops. However this section is built well and you can ride through it. Once to the top, turn left up gravel road and look for next trail on right. This trail takes you to Salamander trail that is a sweet piece of single track. At bottom go left and climb "wheels up". More single track that is a challenging but fun climb. Genesis is also a fun loop. Now start making your way back to Corkscrew for a long, fast, 20 min.downhill. Go back right this time at bottom of Corkscrew for a rocky single track ride back to lot. Many more trails I have not mentioned, but this is my favorite loop.
Thank |This trail is mostly for hiking, well the parts i could even ride were.Too many rocky areas to get a flow going.Lots of downed trees blocking the trail. If You are into rocky steep trails you will love it.Several areas are rider friendly for 1/8-1/4 mile at a time.
