Mountain Biking Yarra Trails

#9 of 66 mountain bike trails in Victoria

Mostly easy to moderate single track, but some formed paths are in there too. If you like you can branch out and explore and find some more challenging tracks.

Getting there
Start at the Fairfeild Boathouse, and go across the pipe bridge. Head east/north along the tracks - you can follow single track allong the freeway until you connect to the Yarra again. They go all the way out to Donvale - if you live out that way it is a good get-to-uni ride in the mornings.

Great trail not hard but has some challenging aspects during certain seasons and conditions the drop from the yarra in some places is big and if you come off there are only a couple of trees stopping you would ride with a friend as someone has already mentioned

Went from Yarra Bend Park to the Yarra Valley Parklands. The further out of the city (East of Burke Road) the better it gets.
Good trail though. No signage, but you can't really get lost.

Trails are pretty good, not to hard. There are not many jumps, but there is a decent size road gap around hans and there is a table top just off the boulevard. Candlebark would prob be the best trails along the yarra

Ok , my second review for these trails , however , once you go exploring , the singletracks branch out everywhere following the river , at the moment its Spring & the trails are dry , it ranges in difficulty from beginner to intermediate to advanced , with some very technical parts , especially high up along the river where the singletrack is very narrow & a miscalculation along the trail could result in a nasty fall down to the river , so , be careful . There are fast flowing singletracks branching from near the city all the way out along the Yarra Trails to Templestowe & beyond . Its really just a matter of exploring & following your nose along the many flowing singletracks . You really wouldn't know you are only a few kilometres away from Australia's second largest city , the trails are often empty in the early evenings except for keeping an eye out for walkers . There are many bridges linking the trails to the inner city , where cafes & good food are always close by . Most recently there are also some good sized jumps along the ways on many of these trails , all ranging in difficulty , some crew have been busy building during the winter . For an evening ride after work , where you don't have to travel hundreds of miles to feel like you're away from the hustle & bustle of the city , these trails are great fun to go exploring & can often lead to some fun surprises along the way . The Yarra Trails are extensive & branch off everywhere around Kew boulevard , the trail starts off beginner level then as it progresses it gets gnarly in some parts . Take the footbridge off Victoria St/ Barkers Road , cross the river then climb up the hill & turn left , following the bike trail , then take a left off the path & you will find a fast section of singletrack . The singletrack is very narrow in some parts so a miscalculation or mistake could land you in the river , as the trail gets very steep & precarious in some parts . Keep following the singletrack along the river , look out for walkers in the evening on sunset . A fun ride from beginner to more difficult in some parts , there is a very steep drop into the river on some sections of the trail , take your cell phone just in case ? Keep following the trails as it sweeps & turns , with some little foot bridges along the way , be wary of walkers as you are hammering along the faster sections . Not much room for error in some parts of this section of the Yarra Trail . Ride along the river until you get to the old Johnston St bridge , then you can climb the hill , cross Johnston st , & more singletracks follow the river & branch off . All around Studley Park boulevard there are branching singletracks , its just a matter of going exploring , good fun , especially close to town although you wouldn't know you're only a few kilometers from the city .

Heading towards Kew on Johnston Street, turn left at Yarra Boulevard and left again onto the Circuit. Follow the Circuit to the furthest point and stop at the land mark. This is where the downhill trails start.
There is a number of downhill trails that vary in skill levels for all types of riders. Fully downhill with small jumps and drop offs.

There are also a large amount of single track to ride next to the Yarra River.

Nice flowing singletrack along the side of the Yarra.. nothing too difficult but just good fun for about an hours worth of riding up and back.
