Mountain Biking Allamuchy State Park-North
#11 of 111 mountain bike trails in New Jersey
The most difficult trail my son and I have done to date in New Jersey.
Very rocky. Significant up and downs. Poorly marked (attempt to follow
the red markers which we assume were once white markers). Do not panic
when you get lost (highly likely). Bring a compass, cell phone, plenty
of fluids, and go to town. Very lightly used...in three hours, we saw only one
other rider. Lots of obstacles for those with technical skills. If you
are an intermediate rider or better and looking for your next challenge,
this is the place. Good luck.

Well you can tell by all the reviews that this place is rocky and tough. You need to have the right bike, protective gear and some good cardio. If you like techy rock gardens then you will love it. I enjoyed this place and rode what i could. Defently a great park to challenge yourself and improve your skills.
Thank |Not my piece of pie. Very rocky - and not in a good way. Sharp, shale like loose stone. Fun stone is Ringwood in NorthEast Jersey. That is technical and fun. This is uncomfortable and painful. I'd rather ride the short Ecological trail on Rutgers campus. If you don't have a FS, and are not technically adept, and not in good shape - avoid this.

Thank |The orange trail from the Tranquility Farms parking area is quite nice and flowy with just one tough climb when heading clockwise from trailhead and a big tree down (11-30-19). Definitely doable for intermediate riders. You can also use the closed section of Stuyvesant Rd as a workaround for the tree and climb. It's only two miles do do it both directions!
Thank |Tough and technical trails here. Not for the beginner ride. Came here with my brother, we both spent a good amount hiking the bike around the harder terrain areas.
Thank |Hilly, rocks, and streams. Bad markings. Yes got lost, walked up rocky steep inclines. Took the white trail. After playing cyclecross umph times, found some nice single track, but I think that's how I got lost. Ended up going to South side, out of the wood and took pavement 10 miles back. With a group and they preferred to go around instead of back over. Thus was not a fun day. 6 mile, Lewis Park, is my skill level. 15% for a long rocky, wet climb was too much for me this day. Thank |This park is certainly tough on the legs with the difficult rocky climbs. This is not a place for intermediate riders as they may find themselves walking their bike through the more difficult sections. Nothing against this place but I definitely don't agree with the #1 MTB park in NJ since your average rider would struggle to conquer it.
Thank |The toughest ride i have been on in a while. Crazy climbs. Technical and nob forgiving. Great challenge.
Thank |This is a really fun trail for advanced riders only. You can find it coming off the purple trail to the righ as you ride in a clockwise direction. First you have a switchback that takes you to the top of the ridge and then all the fun begins. Huge rolers one after another. For the first time it can be confusing to follow the trail in some spots.
Thank |This trail is by far the most difficult in the whole trail network. Large rollers and rock formations to ride on, very difficult at times to follow the trail, and at the end a switchback with the craziest rock gardens. It's basically unidirectional unless you want to walk half of the trail. You can get on it from the green trail.
Thank |Great place to do some technical riding. Most of the trails have significant ups and downs. Bring your skills and agility. Make sure to get a map or better of an app called Maprika otherwise it's very easy to get lost. You have to do some of the unblazed trail don't just go on the marked trails. Most popular trails here are lumpy bumpy and Rollie Pollie.
Thank |trailmanvin how do I contact you? email me at [email protected] I have a house on cranberry that I rent out and am coming up in a few weeks. Would love some info. about the area. House is on S Shore Rd. - Nick
Thank |This is another great, technical trail at Allamuchy. All of the rollers on this trail are perfect, and the switchback climb going up is a lot of fun. A must ride when at Allamuchy.
Thank |My favorite trail in Allamuchy. Crazy rock gardens and rollers. Also has its fair share of drops.
Thank |Today, I called he trail wet. It was a little more wet in the usual places, with a few other wet spots. But over all dry.
Thank |Absolutely the best place in NJ. Need to dig deep to climb these trails but totally worth it.
Thank |Great place to ride. White trail starts out as mostly doubletrack with crazy climbs, but turns into singletrack. The green trail doesn't drain too well, but (in my opinion) the best trail in the park, called Lumpy Bumpy, is near the green trail and it is necessary to ride the green trail to get to Lumpy Bumpy. Most of the fun stuff, including Lumpy Bumpy, are all unmarked, so be ready to spend a lot of time at the park! The east side of the park is very rocky and steep, while the west side is pretty smooth comparably. Overall a great ride, you just need to dig deep.
Thank |Some very tough downhill sections, tight singletrack, good hard climbing. Large area, easy to get lost.
Thank |Challenging
