Mountain Biking Beaver Ponds
#19 of 265 mountain bike trails in Montana
Start by climbing just over a mile on the highway to a trailhead on the left. This is a seriously sweet piece of singletrack. The initial climb is brutal, but once on top, it turns into a very entertaining ride. Threre's some flowy singletrack followed by a beautiful descent. You will have to cross some marshy land that will drive a dismount or some heavy duty mud. After you cross the meadow for the last time, the final descent back to the car is superb.

Take highway 2 south from Butte. Stop at the pullout about a mile before the summit of Pipestone Pass. You will be able spot it as it's just before a switchback right and there's a strange white adobe-looking planter thing.
The trail starts off pretty brutal, with a good 2 miles of steep uphill. a few spots i had to get off my bike and couldnt get started again. I rode this trail the first weekend of october with some spots of snow on the trail. the trail wasnt maintained very well, i came across a few downed trees blocking the trail. once we hit the continental divide trail, the ride back was amazing. next ride, i will start off on the continental divide simply because the uphill will more bearable going backwards on the trail.
Thank |I rode this trail the day after a heavy down pour and the trail was dry except for the small streams that cross the trail. The climb from the parking lot is brutal and continues for 2 miles. After that it is a roller coaster blast! Great scenery. This trail joins several others including the CDT and pipestone/homestake. You can ride beaver ponds to pipestone take a right on pipestone and ride to the pipestone trailhead then take pipestone to toll mtn canyon trail ride it to hwy 2 ride up the road back to the trail head or take a right on the CDT and ride to highland mtn cdt trail. Too many options to list
Thank |Awesome! Nice views, GREAT track, and can be ridden fast! I also agree this should be done with the Toll Loop- It makes for a great afternoon ride!
Did notice that there are a couple of other trails that are being built, or re-directed in that area... have to check them out when I go back... :)* Review edited 9/7/2012
Thank |This is probably the nicest ride in the Butte area. The singletrack is good and the terrain packs a lot of variety into it's relatively short distance. It's not very long, but you can easily combine it with the Toll Canyon trail for a more lengthy outing.
Thank |This is one of the best Beginner/intermediate trails in Southwest Montana. A short section of the Beaver Ponds trail is part of the Butte 100.
