It's what you want! Steeps that make you work for it you will prob walk up a couple sections and then the decent that is fun and fast. I didn't go to the top top because there was a race going on when I did it but it is definitely one I'll be going back for. Like all trails within an hour of Denver get there early.
Thank |Brutal, but fun!
Thank |Good climb up, it's techy, steep in a couple sections. Mostly rideable, but you'll get off a few times most likely. Went up Bergen Peak and down Too Long. Fun downhill, technical, fast in stretches, tight switchbacks. Gotta work for it, and definitely is not a mindless downhill.
Thank |This trail is very steep (especially if you go up Too Long). The climb is is pretty brutal. I rode back down the Bergen Peak Trail to extend my downhill, which I think that was the right call. Lots of flow mixed with technical rocks on the way down. Bring an extra lung for the altitude... and expect a little snow here and there in then spring. I will definitely be coming back to this trail.
Thank |Had my ass kicked by the elevation gain. unrelenting.
The trail is tough - but that does not make it bad.
Descent down Too Long was too fun!
Thank |One of my Front Range favorites. Fantastic trail network with something for everyone. Advanced technical climbing, smooth beginner-intermediate cut-throughs, lung-busting climbs, and tight S-turns. Keep the beginner-intermediates on Meadow View, Founders, Elk Ridge, and Sleepy "S" trail. Advanced, tackle Bergen Peak and Too Long Trails. Bergen Peak and Too Long will test your ability to negotiate technical climbing and picking correct lines. Rode November 10th and the trail is in great condition.
Thank |Great trail, with a good combination of technical challenges and great views. Rode it in October where there was snow on part of the trail in the shades and warm sun at the top.
Thank |The search is over. I have found my perfect trail. After reading a bunch of conflicting reviews on this trail I decided to just go check it out. I was stoked on the whole package, the forest, views, friendly hikers and bikers. I am glad I went all the way to the top of Bergan peak. Having to walk over a bunch of rocky sections didn,t phase me as just being OUT THERE is a bonus. Allow an extra hour if you do the bergan peak trail as its a long way down to tha car park. You will find you stop often also to take in the views and wildlife. I went on a weekday afternoon as i know its a popular place on weekends. Enjoy and stay safe.
Thank |You should be able to do this as a shuttle by following these directions to the top of the mountain...
Thank |1. Head west on I-70 from Denver
2. Take exit 252 off of I-70, merge onto CO-74 S/Evergreen Pkwy to Evergreen Pkwy - 3.4 mi
3. Turn right onto Co Rd 66/Ellingwood Trail/Squaw Pass Rd
Continue to follow Co Rd 66/Squaw Pass Rd - 1.6 mi
4. Turn left toward Bear Claw Ln - 1.0 mi
Continue straight onto Bear Claw Ln - 0.3 mi
5. Turn left onto Co Rd 470/Sinton Rd - 0.1 mi
6. Take the 1st left onto Tract E - 0.3 mi
7. Turn right - 0.3 mi
8. Turn right
Destination will be on the right
You speak of going "left" twice. Which time do you mean to go "right"?
Thank |Bergen Peak is a lot harder, and, a lot more fun than Mt. Falcon. Stout climb with typical Front Range gnar both up and down. Fun trail.
Thank |This is a GREAT trail! There are some technical spots during the climb up to Bergen Peak but the views and downhill are worth it! I would say it's a more difficult trail but not a black diamond. Just like what everyone else said, try to go on a weekday early morning or in the evening to miss any traffic on the trail. I would recommend not riding here on the weekends.
Thank |Really enjoyed this trail. I must say though that the number of reviews here that list this as "lots of technical sections" "very technical" or "super technical" is not totally accurate, and I'm not a monster rider, especially in the technical arena. Actually, I was somewhat surprised that this trail was listed as single black diamond. I did get off my bike 2 or 3 times for a few feet, but only because I was riding alone. I always lighten up when alone. Never the less, the climb is quite a work out, but not ridicules like say Whites Ranch. As listed below the decent is awesome especially on the lower sections which are way less technical. There its very fast, flowing, with some nice jumps. I did this ride mid week at 3pm and there were only 2 other cars in the lot. I will take some friends up next time.
Thank |Big, big climb going up with a lot of switchbacks and some techie riding. A good climb, but tough. Coming down is ridiculously fun, just bombing down with a great mix of nice singletrack and enough technical spots that you've gotta pay attention. Incredibly crowded on the weekend, keeps your speed in check unfortunately.
Thank |This loop is in my top list of favorite downhills in the Front Range. The climb to the summit will get your heart pumping, but it's really not bad, especially when rewarded with the sweet downhill!
Thank |My wife and I did this on a whim today and were definitely caught off guard. It looks very similar to Evergreen Mt. trail however there are A LOT of technical sections. IMHO, if you're not good at bike trials it'll be nearly impossible NOT to walk your bike at all on this trail. If you love a good lung buster with thought provoking technical sections and fast downhill then this trail is for you. If you plan to hit this when you’re not up to par, be prepared to get spanked.
Thank |Classic Colorado riding: long climb through the the trees, great scenery at the top, and a long, flowy downhill.
This trail can be crowded at peak times, so try it on a weeknight.
Thank |See skibum's review below. Climb up is steady and is spotted with some techy sections. Downhill is fun and fast.
Thank |Beautiful trail and tons of fun but very technical. Lots of steep climbs and plenty of big rocks. Bergen was where I had my first serious fall and I took the fall with pride. :-) Awesome views! Very crowded during weekend! I was heading down at 11 am and had to constantly stop for hikers and other bikers - go during weekday or super early on a weekend to avoid the crowds.
Thank |This trail is crazy! super hard technical uphill with quite a bit of elevation gain, but the downhill makes it all worth while. definitely take the Bergen peak trail all the way to the top for a wicked view! I would be wary if trying this one on a hardtail. one of the best trails in the area.
