***   Add a review
#74 of 115 mountain bike trails in South Carolina
#6,123 in the world

This group of interconnecting shady trails are a great ride/or hike for the entire family, because there are no major obstacles. The outer perimeter is a 28-mile loop, but various connectors enable you to lengthen or shorten your ride There are several points of interest, including old cemeteries, creek crossings, wagon roads, and plantation sites. Wildflowers dot portions of the trail and in the springtime dogwoods offer brilliant displays of color. The trail is primarily gravel or Piedmont clay.

It is recommended that horses be shod. Since these trails are shared, you may encounter hikers or mountain bikers. Insect repellent is recommended during warm months.

Trail Lengths: Outer perimeter: 28 miles. Connectors: Blue 5.75 miles, Purple 9.0 miles, White 12.7 miles, Green 1.25 miles, Gray 0.75 mile, Red 2.25 miles, and Palmetto Trail 8.0 miles.

Fees: Daily $3 per vehicle, or yearly $25 per vehicle. A fine will be charged for failure to pay the fee.

I rode this trail when it was bone dry, so I had a better experience I guess than some of the other reviews here. My son (9) and I rode about 20 miles. The trail is wide in spots, but there is some sweet single track in some spots. The woods are beautiful and it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. It seems the trail has been rerouted in some places and the old trails are still visible etc, this caused some confusion, but it was all part of the adventure. I hope to Bikepack this part of the Palmetto trail soon, so this was a good scouting trip. Overall, it was perfect for my son and we got some good miles in here.

Came from Atlanta to visit son in college. Always looking for a new trail system outside of Atl. Very dissapointed and will not come back. This is obviously a great horse trail system first and foremost but if you are s true singletrack MTBer then do your bike a favor, dont let its tread touch this trail system. Really a shame because its actually a nice layout but with any rain whatsover its simply a flood plain.

This is an update to my last review. I came out here today with the sole intentions of doing a GPS track of this trail. Unfortunately, the tree canopy was too thick and I lost reception. Anyhow, I included a picture of the trail system map and submitted the location of the trail head for everyone to use. I have rode here several times, and every time I ride here it is wet, wet, wet! So, I waited for a day that I thought the trail wouldn't be so wet... was I wrong! My route: I started at the trail head and biked the blue to green, green to red, and red to blue/yellow back to the trail head. This trail is not technical at all, and I only rode about 10 miles, but I feel like I rode 30 miles! The HORSE RIDERS have completely destroyed this trail system. There are parts that the trail has gone from sweet singletrack, to being ten feet wide where the horse riders have tried to avoid a little mud. The outcome is mud holes, that in some places, are 8 to 12 inches deep. The red section of the trail that I rode today was awful. STAY AWAY FROM THE RED! This section is an old logging road that is nothing but red clay. I had to stop several times to clean my bike just so I could keep going. Several times my bike just completely stalled out and I would spin the rear. Right now, the purple trail, part of the Palmetto Trail, is closed due to logging. Between the loggers and horse riders this beautiful trail system is pretty beat up. Don't get me wrong. I still had a blast riding here, but I will not be returning until the summer months when I know it has not rained for at least a week, maybe more. I don't want to discourage anyone from riding here. There are some good sections of singletrack, but be advised, you are going to get muddy and there are some sections that are just not able to be rode. If you are in the area, check it out! BUT DO NOT make a special trip to hit this trail! If you do, make sure the weather has been dry and hot for awhile! P.S. bring the bug spray!

Road here yesterday. Unfortunatly, with the recent rain we've had the connector trails were quite slick. I stuck to the outter trail that is mostly gravel. Other than A LOT of horse traffic, it seems like a nice trail system. Will have to wait for the ground to dry up and update.

Was a nice trail BITD, but I don't believe it sees much MTB use nowadays.
