Mountain Biking Tosohatchee State Reserve
#162 of 289 mountain bike trails in Florida
Terrain: Singletrack trails and jeep roads through low lying wetlands bordering the St. Johns River. Check with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission prior to visiting because this area is open to hunting.
This very scenic area attracts many city folk for off-road biking east of Orlando. The Florida National Scenic Trail with the orange blazes is open to bikes and offers approximately 10 miles of wooded singetrack riding. The Power Line Road is a wide grassy stretch out to the St. Johns River with good views of typical Florida wetlands. In addition there are many other roads and trails to explore in this 5,000 acre reserve. Bicycling trail maps are available at the kiosk. A minor point: a sign in sheet is available for signing it and stating your activity. This may assist in opening future trails in the vicinity.

To Get There: From the West, take the turnpike or I-4 towards Orlando. Take SR 50 East from Orlando to the town of Christmas. Turn right on Taylor Creek Road and continue for 4 miles to the park entrance on the left. From the East, take I-95 to SR 50 and head West towards Christmas. Turn left on Taylor Creek Road and follow above directions. There is a small entrance fee.
The north end of the orange trail was dry but not real suitable for biking. Keep an eye out for cattle.
Thank |I enjoy Florida trails. The terrain changes often. One minute you are on a fire road and then you are in thick jungle like conditions. The St. Johns River is close and you can hear the air boats cruising the river. The Palmetto Palms can be thick. Bring an extra tube and band aids. I pulled 10 ticks of my dog and there are spiders everywhere.
