Getting there
Exit I-95 at State Road 70 (Ft. Pierce/Okeechobee exit). Drive west to the second light (FL Turnpike), get into your inside LT turn lane and make a u-turn at this intersection, immediately on your RT is a dirt road. Turn RT on this dirt road. You can also continue to pass the FL Turnpike overpass intersections and make a u-turn further down SR 70 to be on the safe side and pass back through the FL Turnpike overpass intersections and make a RT turn onto the dirt road as you pass the east side light of the FL Turnpike overpass intersections. Pleas keep in mind that your RT hand turn is at the offramp exit of the FL Turnpike Toll Booths. Follow the dirt road until it stops at the trail head. About half a mile back.

Very good local trails. I was fortunate to be invited by members. If you are in the area, this is a fun bang for the buck 6 mile course.

The Big Dipper is steep for us old guys but pretty smooth. Great trail when it is a hot sunny day because most of it is in the shad.

My wife and I rode this and found it to be a nice trail. Some bridges and drops with loose sand and roots being the biggest obstacles. We rode the harder sections as marked by the signs and found them to be fun and enjoyable. The trail is clearly marked to avoid areas you may not want to try. It was worth the money to join the club for a couple rides around the trail. They do a wonderful job on upkeep and maintenance.

The review from simguy160 was a good review of Jonathan Dickinson State Park trails, not the Fort Pierce trail. No 8:00 opening, gator hole, or shell rock at the Fort, but since the trail is on private property, you must be a member of Airborne MTB club to ride. Ft. Pierce is an intermediate trail and not for beginners. Lots of ups and downs, roots, sharp switchbacks. Completely shaded, but does get muddy in the rainy (summer) season. This is great trail to ride when it is dry, and head to JDSP trails when it gets wet, as that trail is better after a good rain.

Tough trail for a beginner. It has lots of hills and roots. Trail feels much longer than it is.

Definitely the best trail in the area! Fast & flowy, technical with nice elevation changes! There's been a lot of awesome improvements lately so the trail keeps getting better & better. Great job to all that work on the trail & keep it groomed to perfection!

Paid for membership and gate code worked, but hiked around and found no signs, no trailhead and no maintenance ?? I think we found area for parking, and beyond that looked flooded so could not proceed in truck. Absolutely no trail head markings or single track . Grassy overgrowth. Could someone please tell me what I missed?

Deep in the palm and citrus woods with plenty of shade. Well groomed trail. Flows very well and has decent elevation for a Florida trail. Wish it was longer. Plenty of nice technical areas with bypasses for the beginners. My favorite trail in the Treasure Coast and consider it a hidden gem. Tag along with a friendly Airborne Club member to check it out.

Trail is currently in awesome condition. Fast flowing hard packed surface makes for some of the better riding around at the present time.
All thanks to recent hard work of club members.
Be sure to join the club and sign the waiver so we can all continue the use of this trail.

You have to be a member of the local club (Airborne MTB) that maintains the trails for liability reasons. I believe that was part of the deal they negotiated in order for them to keep the trails.

Does anyone know why they have the permit needed and trespassing sign at the beginning?

Great "quick and dirty" trail. It's an hour drive from melbourne and worth it every time. Trail is maintained to a standard greater than most by the airborne club, they really do a great job. Technical sections, wooden bridges, tree roots, and solid elevation changes (for florida) make this trail one of my favorites. Easy to navigate although it may seem like you've ridden a section twice just stay on the trail and you'll eventually see the exit sign. Don't forget it is a 4 mile loop......of awesomeness. 5 stars.

What to expect. A little bit of everything. Nice drips, tricky climbs a few rad hills, passing back and forth under the turnpike, nice. Theres a few options throughout so each lap can be different. Not a hard pedal. Great overall and a good collection of technical skills.

What a diamond in the ruff. The people at Airborne do a great job of maintaing the trail. Marked fairly well. We came up from miami and it was worth it. Nobody was there and two laps of 4+ miles each made for a nice trip.
Hopefully more people will pay the membership fees so this trail can move to the top of other rider's lists.
Tons of fun! Thanks Nick for keeping it up!

Rode it for second time ever Sat. 1/28/12. Great trail and easy to navigate. It is about 4 miles long. Must join/pay Airborne Mountain Bike Club ($25) and submit waiver to get gate combination. Or park away from trail head and ride around gate.

Rider questions

Q: We are at trails, signed waiver and paid, no code ever sent after I emailed Dave?
A: Checking our archived emails, you joined and sent the club an email at 9am. Emails are checked after 5pm after returning from our regular 9 to 5 jobs since this is a club run by volunteers. Your membership was under someone else's name and as a single (non-family) membership. However, I still sent you the gate code that evening. Regardless, we now use a membership system that automatically sends the gate code via email once you complete your membership payment, avoiding delays.
