Trail is comprised of two loops - East and West. West is beginner friendly, very smooth and flowing. Lots of open trail Which is good for getting up some speed and very fast smooth turns. This trail is very good for the beginner, and very fast and fun for the more skilled rider. Trail takes riders thru lots of woods. There are a few small /semi steep hill climb's but they are fairly short.
The East is more difficult, intermediate to advanced in overall skill. Lots of climbs of various length, significant drops, and a few rock gardens here n' there. It should be noted that this section is an "out-and-back" style loop. Enter from 1st street, take the first right onto "River trail", then left onto the "East Loop" section. From here, there's the optional "Opening Soon" section, or you can take the East loop back to the entrance.
It should be noted that the section of the "East Loop" that runs along I-30 is closed (between the Trinity River low water crossing, up to junction with the "River Trail") There is a map on the FWBMA's website that makes it look as though this section is open, but it's currently too overgrown to bike.
You can avoid all the obstacles if you are just getting started or want a leisure ride. Plenty of man made obstacles, bridges/ drops for a more experienced rider to enjoy. Good quick ride.
Thank |A well maintained trail with great flow and lots of just straight up fun. Since I first wrote this review, the trail has been improved greatly, so I'm updating my review. The west loop is short, flowy hardpack and excellent for beginners. Many new wooden features have been added as of the fall 2019, including some new jumps (but all can be ridden around) and new berms have been sculpted in key places to keep speed high. This loop does have a frisbee golf course that intersects with the trail several times which can be confusing for first timers. Usually if you don't see arrows you just stay straight on the trail. Experienced riders can clear this loop in around 20 minutes.
The east loop is more difficult with more variety of terrain and longer climbs (lots of rocks). "River loop" is very flowy and easy. "East Loop" and "Buckin Bronco" (the "opening soon" section on the map) are significantly harder with some lung burning climbs and very fast descents. Also as of Fall 2019, there is a new XC line on the east side that branches off the East loop as you start to climb.
It may not be a "destination trail" in some peoples' eyes, but I can't imagine someone coming here and not finding something they like about the trail.
Thank |Front side flows very well and probably easy to intermediate level. It has no sustained climbs more than 25 feet. No exposure and not technical. On a good day (for me) its like a roller coaster ride with easy ups and downs.
The back side (across the bridge), is newer and more choppy. Its really getting worn in well and seems better with each visit. Its definitely intermediate. It has more exposed roots. The trail is narrower. Lots of cacti that will punish you if you veer of the trail. It has climbs that are no more that 100ft. but much steeper and with more exposed rock and gravel. It has a few more technical spots.
Overall, two levels of trail, both great and a lot of fun.
Thank |Are you or a friend new to MTB, then this is the trail for you. I took my 12yr old here for his first MTB ride and he loved it. I wish I had a 24" or 26" BMX to ride there though.
Thank |Nice flowing well maintained single track close to the house. Easy to run fast on, loads of quick downhills followed another uphill run. Love this place.
Thank |The west loop is a good solid trail with a few roots and quick turns, small climbs. Fun for all. The east is more challenging with more roots, many rocks and much more climbing. I did both today and ridden together it is 7.59 miles using cyclemeter.
Thank |This trail really has the "yippy!!!" factor about it. Its relatively short but very sweet. There is way more vertical nature to this trail than I would have thought but yet its still semi-easy to ride. I thought the trail could have had better markings as I got onto the wrong trail a few times (this trail is interlaced with a frisbee golf course). Bottom line this trail wont challenge you much however i promise it will make you SMILE.
