#22 of 202 mountain bike trails in Tennessee

This trail is deteriorating fast!! The land "donated" to us was shallow at best. The top soil depth in this area is low, therefore, when a great deal of rain falls, the top soil just washes away!! This is not a matter of trail maintenance or riding when the trail conditions are not conducive. This is a matter of poor land!! If you are planning on riding here, plan on a ride that is fairly rough. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way trying to discourage anyone from riding here. I am just merely pointing out that suspension of some kind is highly recommended, especially if you plan on riding the technical side!!

Getting there
"Take I-40 towards Knoxville (east). Past the airport and exit at the Stewarts Ferry Pike exit (turn right). Go past all the service stations and grocery stores etc. Follow Stewarts Ferry Pike (it will eventually turn into Bell Road - one of those strange Nashville road things) about 4 miles. On your left will be the Hamilton Creek entrance (turn left) go up the hill and take the first right follow this until it dead-ends and turn right (the BMX track is on your left) This dead-ends as well at the trail head.

It’s been a few years since I rode the trail, had a blast. This trail has a lot of rock, if you are not comfortable riding rock gardens this trail is not for you. It’s not a really hard trail, just make sure you know what your getting into.

Not bad conditions after a night of rain , slightly muddy in areas and slippery rocks with a couple trees down across the trail

Oh, and it should be noted that this is more like 10 or 11 miles.

We rode this for the first time on a trip through the area. Spent about two hours sending all trails and loops that we saw on our maps. Two things were unique for me, and I do ride a bunch. The first is that the trail is just rough. Not really advanced or technical, but certainly rocky. It sure felt that there was no more than a few yards in any stretch without serious quantities of rock. Not big rocks, tables, steps, or drips, just engaged rock. Second, the view ahead is typically very short. In other words, the track is really curvy making fast riding and navigation a challenge for someone unfamiliar with the trail. The available maps are inaccurate for the east side near the lake, but otherwise are pretty good. I enjoyed the trail, if you choose to ride here be ready for some tough earned miles.

If you are into technical (I am) this is the place for you. I rode the whole thing and Strava put it at 750 feet of climbing, but it feels like a lot more as the climbs are rocky and technical. Strava put it at just under 10 miles. Trails were in great shape. The tan loop could use a trimming, but im just being picky, as overall this place is great. I highly recommend it for intermediate and advanced riders.

This trail has more splits and my ex girlfriend's personalities. And much like her, never knew where it was gonna take you. There's no signage here, some spray paint would be nice. Stay to the right at splits to ride the whole trail. Technical and rocky, best not for a super novice but fun and some crazy lines.

fIve ridden this trail Wednesday and on Friday, It does get technical in some places and the drops off of some of the rock gardens are a bit steep. Look ahead at the trail. That is the best way to approach this trail. Look a few feet ahead of you at turns, or obstacles. Fun trail to build yourself up as a rider. Also fun to session on some of the rock gardens

Rode this trail on Aug 21'st... As many others have stated this trail is pretty technical (at this point I would say one of the most technical near Nashville). I rode the trail riding a hardtail and found that it was doable, but I felt like someone had beat the crap out of me by the time I was done. I suspect that if you used a full suspension bike that this trail would be more forgiving.

Also... Trail is almost 12 miles not the 5 miles stated above.

Rode here for the second time. First time was 3.5 years ago. Rode the entire thing this time, hanging nothing but rights all the way around and came out of there at 12 miles on the O. As stated below, this place is plenty technical and slow going fo the most part. Being from East Tennessee I am use to my share of hill climbs but that also means its followed by a nice downhill section. Not here. Lots of exposed rock, roots and rock gardens. Nice drops and rocking climbing sections. Anytime you start top get to a point that the trail flows, it ends with a hairpin back the other direction. A fun ride, just grueling in sections. A great place to work on skills if your not use to the terrain.

First time riding out at this place and it's very rocky but still fun! Great place to work on technical rocky climbs and short descents. Over all it is a leg burner if you cross the road and don't expect to be sitting in the saddle much!! Standing tech all day but lots of fun. Signage needs some work and if you are looking for fast flow this isn't the place for you. Over all it's fun if you want to work on some skills in the rocks and slippery roots. Adjoining bmx track is top notch and is almost done with the remodel. Should be done beginning of April.

I was last on this trail 2 years ago and am a much better rider now. This is a fun trail to ride with a few good rock features to climb. The trail was very muddy and it has not rained in a few days. Did both sides and got a good 10 miles in. The topo map in this app needs to be updated, I can send the .gpx to single tracks if they want it.

This is one of the most technical trails in middle Tn. That comes from a very rocky terrain. There are very good climbs and descents but just know that it's going to be rough. This is where I go when I am looking for a challenging and demanding ride. If you are looking for flow and easier riding there are many other options that you will like better.

Fairly technical with some moderate drops. Elevation change is minimal. A fun place to ride for sure.

Have been out in 10 years and this trail was well worth the wait! I have the bruises and scrapes to show for it! Did the blue loop. Lots of great rocks and roots! A total confidence builder! Bring along your first aid kit! I can't wait to go back!!!

I didn't do whole trail, but it looks so technical and long if you connect all the routes. There are many roots and rock that you need to have good balance with your bike

This course is fantastic...a real challenge and confidence builder. I had initially planned to just ride the beginner's course but veered off onto the intermediate and eventually advanced section. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AS THE TRAILS ARE NOT CLEARLY MARKED!! Rocks and roots everywhere and its a great course to learn how to pick a line and get over a fear of rocks. This is not a flowing, fast trail like Lock 4 or Montgomery Bell...its slow, and demands concentration. However, it does have a few sections of trail that you can relax on. Don't ride this without knee pads or shin guards as I made that mistake and have a grapefruit size bruise on my thigh from falling on a rock.

I have to say this was a real blast to ride. The technical features were the most advances that I have faced to this point. I was riding a hard tail and would definately suggest a full suspention.

    Tough but a great ride!

It's been a few years since I have rode this trail, but from what I remember it is awesome! Of course I love really technical stuff. If you like big rocks and lots of them, this is the trail for you! I rode the intermediate trail 5 or 6 times while living in Nashville, tried the advanced trail once and found out that I needed more practice! I turned around not long into it. very technical, very fun! I can't wait to make a weekend trip to Nashville to ride again!

I have recently started doing a lot of consulting in the SE Nashville area and I'm staying at a house about two miles from Hamilton Creek. Hamilton Creek was a nice surpise for me. In a few words I would describe the trails as delightfully nasty, an absolute blast, a natural terrain park.
I have a high end 26" Stumpjumper full suspension bike so take that into consideration when reading my discription.
I have ridden the trail a half dozen times in the last few weeks and find that there is a mimimum speed I have to go in order to keep from getting trashed. Too slow and look out, momentum is your friend (and enemy). I am averaging about 25 minutes for the yellow/blue lakeside combined and about 40-45 minutes for the west side.
I do not find the west side to be significantly harder than the lakeside with the exception of a few drops. One of those drops (a 2-3 foot drop onto a flat short runout into a gap between two trees and more rock garden) I elect to go towards the right side and manual down a series of easier rocks. The trails flow as much as you will let them. I think the trail ratings are fair.
Other considerations; Tons of spiders and webs midweek mornings and a lack of regular riders on some sections, I don't want to know what kind of spiders, I am afraid to ask.
