Mountain Biking Iron Mountain Trail

***   Add a review
#100 of 307 mountain bike trails in Oregon
#4,519 in the world

From the trailhead you can either ride straightish to fairway road. This is 1.5 track gravel & dirt. Or you can ride down and about halfway there will be a switchback. Take this and it's rocky rooty technical and fun and at the end there's some flowy twisty singletrack, which ends at Brookside rd. This is the recommended route. Also along the trail there are hardly noticable, very steep and fun switchbacks that go down the mountain to iron mountain road, but these are unmarked so use them with caution.

At corner of fairway & iron mountain rd, drive up hill to end of road and park. Flatish wide dirt path on rt at end of fairway, nice beginner trail. Can go down steeply on a path midway , didn't do that as was walking dog.

Short and easy but only a few miles from my house.

VERY SHORT!! But fun. After the switchback it is all smooth easy downhill. You don't even need to pedal if you don't want to. Simple ride, good starting point for a new rider. I took the switchback route as recommended by previous reviews. I left my car at the trail head (not sure if I was supposed to or not). I rode the trail down to the switchback in less than 5 minutes, then rode the fun part of the trail in probably less than 5 minutes. It dumped me off at a road, and the ride back to the car was about 10 minutes (I didn't know where I was at first). The total circuit was like 24 minutes, back to the car. Plan to make a couple runs to make your trip worthwhile. Not bad for a local ride. I wouldn't travel out of your way for this one though.

Being a mountain biker in the Portland area is hard because there are few mtb trails to ride. One day i was exploring and found this and although it's short, it keeps me satisfied until i can go on a road trip for some serious riding. It starts out as crush gravel with roots that are fun to jump and then after a switchback it gets rocky and technical for a section before smoothing out into a flowy and very fast singletrack. My only complaint is that i wish it were longer! If you live in Lake Oswego, this is a great trail for you.
