Mountain Biking John Bryan State Park
#12 of 116 mountain bike trails in Ohio
Its a pretty simple trail, theres really no elevation changes or tough obstacles besides a few log jums and some small ramps. Theres one creek crossing. There are three loops you can ride with a total of 12.4 miles. There are a lot of tight turns on the longest loop so its hard to gain some good speed.

My first time out on the mountain bike in a long long time. This trail was just what I needed! Super smooth and flowing. We’ll marked, easy access and incredibly well groomed!
Thank |The trails are very well maintained, fast and flow very well. It's a fantastic XC trail system. The system could use better signage at the intersections and the "feature play area" needs some attention.
Thank |Rode the trail on 07/28/2018 and it was very well maintained. A very good beginner trail with few simple technical options. It will make the beginners more interested in taking the intermediate trails. You can also have a fun, simple ride in the woods without big efforts. Anyways, a decent cardio workout too
Thank |Beautifully maintained Singletrack built for speed--nothing technical.
Thank |Very good beginner trail with some technical parts. Had a very fun time riding on this trail
Thank |Had the trails all to myself the morning on 9/19.
First, maintenance was nearly perfect. They really do a nice job keeping it clean and each trail is well marked. Maybe need some new paint in the letters on the signs but that's probably nit-picking.
Second, if you frequent tracks like MoMBA, you will be sorely disappointed if you come in with anything more than expectations of a decent morning in the woods. The trails are very boring and all seemed to just blend in. I was told before coming here that it was pretty easy to pick up speed and flow was awesome; I have to disagree. While you can pick up speed on some portions, it seems like it's broken up and the flow is non-existent. "Flow" is pretty subjective though so please take that with a grain of salt, but it says a lot that I remember very little about any particular part of the system two days later.
Things aren't all bad. It's a great way to build cardio over a longer distance instead of killing yourself on 5 miles at MoMBA. It's also a very nice place to practice leaning the bike through turns, as mistakes are rarely dangerous. The wildlife I came across was pretty cool too; plenty of deer and turkey to feed a whole village!
It was peaceful and pleasant, but that's not always good when you want to rip it on your favorite MTB.
Thank |I applaud the locals for the trail maintenance here to a T. Almost too much. 6" logs are ramped over, what? Yeah! If you're used to bunny hopping a 10 or 20" log then don't expect it here! This is a very flat terrain ride, nothing technical, nothing of much excitement. If you're a road weenie, 29r weenie who can't handle a true mountain bike trail then this is wimped down for you! Go for it. If you want to get some air, dodge and knock through rock gardens, hop logs and bomb a down hill then head south, you might find that in KY. I'm going there next, this was hardly worth the drive.
Thank |Great beginner trail and great all around fast and flowing trails at John Bryan State Park. I have been riding John Bryan for over two years are I still have a blast when I ride! Nothing technical but they do have a small skills area with some technical features. Fun trail to take someone who has never mountain biked before.
Thank |A decent trail for flat and fast. No elevation so it is nice to hook the beginners into mtbing. If in need of a more technical trail go to MOMBA!
Thank |This trail is outstanding for beginners and loads of fun for more experience XC'ers looking for a system that has great flow and can carry speed.
My son, who's 11 years old, is just getting into mountain biking. I needed a trail that was short, had bailout options, and wasn't challenging in terms of technical sections and climbing. So I took him to John Bryan State Park (my first time there, as well), which was about an hour from us in Delaware. He had a blast, and to my surprise, so did I. We weren't there for me, we were there for him. So I had already subconsciously resigned myself to being a bit bored after reading reviews of how flat and non-technical the terrain was. But I was wrong: it was so much fun being able to go all-out on the trail, and he had a great time, too. This is stress-free nature riding at its finest.
You're not going to build strength and endurance on this trail, but you WILL have a ton of fun. The trail is extremely well maintained: it was clear, very well marked, and dry even after a week of showers. Everyone we met on the trail was very friendly, as well.
We'll no doubt be back for more!
Thank |Great set of trails. Very well marked. This is the first set of trails I rode and nothing was too difficult to do as a beginner. The trails are kept up extremely well.
Thank |Very flat and fast. There really aren't any technical features that are going to challenge you but its a fast, flowing trail that you can really carry speed on. The lack of elevation change means you're going to have to pedal to gain speed but you can crank along the whole trail. Its a great trail for beginners but more advanced riders can still enjoy by carrying more speed. I tend to prefer less technical trails that flow allow you to carry more speed and this trail does just that. I do think creating some optional technical features could enhance this trail and make it appeal to a greater number of riders. Overall, its a fun trail and worth riding if you are in the area or if you need a change of pace.
Thank |So far, my favorite trail in Ohio. There is no vertical challenge to this trail, the trail does offer some challenges. The beginning section is filled with switchbacks and tight trees that make you question if your bike will make it through. The back section reward you with so great open and flowing trails.
Thank |Watch out for tree roots and narrow trees... other than that, sh@#s wack
Thank |Great really fast trail - not technical but that's not my style anyway. The local trail crew does a great job with maintenance. I liked it so much I signed up for one of the races held there.
Thank |Family rode trail today, main trail aint bad but side trails are still muddy...great trail to ride with kids
Thank |Hit this place up about a week ago and can't wait to go back. The first half of the ride is pretty twisty and the last half gets flowy and fast. No real climbing here: GPS logs 3000 feet of climbing and 3100 of descending over 11.6 miles. Place was very well maintained with excellent signage. Props to the local trail crew. * Review edited 9/21/2012
Thank |This trail is lots of fun. If you are looking for something technical you'll be disappointed. But if you're looking to improve your balance, flow, and speed over tight turns, this is the place to ride. Very well maintained, and great map/on trail indicators. Got on the trail at 730 and had to bail at just a little early. Can't wait to go back. For an afterwork ride, I'd take this over MOMBA every time.
Thank |rode trail 2/12/12 even though its a beginner trail i just love this trail something about it just makes it a great trail. you can just flat fly on this trail. best maintance i have ever seen at this place. don't let the "beginner"status keep you away.
Thank |beginner trail but very fun trail to ride at full speed. bi directional so be alert. flat no hills. trail maintance the best i have ever seen.
