A dirt trail winding through a forest, surrounded by lush greenery. The trail is partially covered with tree roots and has scattered leaves on the ground, indicating a natural and somewhat rugged path. Sunlight filters through the trees, creating patches of light and shadow along the path. Lewis Morris mountain bike trail.

Mountain Biking Lewis Morris

#8 of 111 mountain bike trails in New Jersey
#820 in the world

Lewis Morris Park is a medium-small sized park with a very high level of maintenance. There is hardly ever a stick in the trail, let alone a log. In the fall the leaves are literally blown from the trails. There are nicely constructed micro gravel paths yet many sections with an overload of roots. Plenty of climbing, steep but short, nothing sustained. The high quality of the trails makes the descending fast and fun, especially the last half of the yellow trail going clockwise.

Very good uphills that totally workout your lungs... Mostly rocky...The yellow trail is the best...

Good place for an advanced beginner to improve. Nothing technical here but more advanced riders can get in a couple of loops at speed. Nice place to ride if you're in the area but not a destination ride.

Nice place and easily accessible. Lots of different trails to branch off on if you want. I rode the yellow loop which was a blast...someone else said to ride it clockwise and I completely agree. Some really fun downhill switchbacks and some challenging spots as well. Would recommend to pretty much anyone. It's very well maintained and clearly marked.

This is a really enjoyable flowy trail network. I'm not a local but try to ride here when I'm in the area visiting in-laws. My local riding is much more technical so I enjoy the change. There are some phenomenal downhill sections in here. The perimeter loop is easy to navigate but I find it harder to put together a route through the interior trails and end up doing lots of repeating and doubling back which I can't complain about since most of the trails are fun in both directions.

This trail is very enjoyable for beginner riders to advance riders. Yellow trail takes you all around the mountain and best route is to ride it is clockwise. The climb is manageable but the decent is amazing. This is a must try.

LewMo is a good place for a quick spin for advanced riders but also good for people just starting.

Been riding here since I started biking in March 2016. Well maintained trails with some rocks/roots here and there. Probably one of the smoother spots up north. Beginner friendly but still fun for intermediate riders.

Fast, flow-y, well kept trails make up for the lack of features and technical difficulty. Great for a hardtail!

We average 6-10 miles without doubling back though I'm sure there's better routes to take. Elevation is about 100 feet per mile.

Prefer tougher riding like Jungle, Ringwood, etc but still come back here regularly.

Rode here for the first time and had a blast! The climb up makes the down hill section well worth it. The trails are nicely maintained and parking is safe and free! I will definitely be back there again.

This is always a fun place to take the kids. I always plan routes to be able to go down yellow back towards the lake. Good little root jumps. Glints aren't bad.

It take us about 1 to drive here. There are many closer trails, but we keep coming back.

Excellent layout of trails, with a good mix of moderately challenging climbs and fast descents. Not too rocky, but lots of roots, and a few good trail obstacles. Nothing too challenging for an intermediate rider, but engaging enough to keep you coming back.

This was my first time riding MTB in NJ and I absolutely loved it! As an intermediate rider this trail network was loads of fun.
I unfortunately got a little lost in Jockey Hollow, which borders the park. Some very fun riding there even if it was trying to get back to the park where riding is actually allowed. I am sorry for poaching the trails but I had no clue as to how to get back to where I came having no maps and no idea of ho to get around.
As others have said the yellow trail kicks tail, especially on a hard tail. This is defiantly some true all mountain riding to be had hear.

This place is awesome. Challenging enough but not too advanced for intermediate riders. A lot of steep heart pumping ascents and fun descents. Some rock gardens but not too technical. Small park, may end up repeating some trails to get mileage and time In. It looks like they added more trails this year. Defiantly check it out!

Very fun. Uphills can be brutal, but the downhills are very fast.
Some sections are very gravelly, and some can be technical with small rock gardens and large root systems.

Really fun trail and is probably one of the best around. Ive ridden almost every trail and though there was some tough uphill, there were a lot of technical downhill sectionS.

I've ridden here many times in the past year. Very hilly, not too technical overall but has some tricky spots, very little mud after rain (the terrain drains really well). Lots of fun, short steep uphill and fast downhill sections, tons of switchbacks, not crowded at all. All the trails loop back making it hard to get lost-except for Patriots Path. Some very rocky and rooty sections, nice to have a Full Susser if your an "old" man like me (45). Really beautiful scenery in the Fall-just be aware that things can get slippery with damp/wet leaves on the ground. I'm looking forward to some awesome riding this winter. It's only about a 30min drive from Maplewood, NJ. Park in the lot accross from Sunrise Lake off Mendham Road then cross the road to get to the good stuff. I prefer it to Chimney Rock/Washington Valley which is about the same distance away, but gets and stays pretty muddy after it rains and tends to be more crowded with hikers and bikers.
