Mountain Biking Maxwell Falls
#245 of 1,392 mountain bike trails in Colorado
This is a steep rocky technical climb. The ride back down makes it all worth while. It was a short fun ride I made it a little longer by connecting with Cub Creek Trail and riding to the wilderness boundary.

From Evergreen drive south on Hwy 73 right at Brook Forest Road for three miles.
Get your legs and lungs in order. The Maxwell Falls Trail is both viciously steep and big boulder technical. Most riders will push as much as they ride on the way up. On the other hand, the downhill is great fun.
But It goes by so fast,
It just doesn't last.
Is it even worth the climb?
Also, this trail is HUGELY popular with hikers. Don't even think about going on a weekend--save it for a weekday if you can.
Thank |Fun technical climbing but not much flow overall. Not enough trail to make it worthwhile unless you are already in the area looking for a few more miles of riding. I'ts more of a hiking trail. Don't go across the road to Cub Trail - it's just loose rocks and not much fun at all.
Thank |Fun but technical climb awsome downhill
Thank |Steep climbs. Roots. Rock Gardens. Great views. Classic front range gnar with great views and some tough spots. Signage is not great...but the area is small enough to explore. For a great workout, park in the South Fall lot and climb to the Cliff loop, which I prefer clockwise.
Thank |This trail is insane! Definately not a beginner trail. A lot of rocks, stumps and roots. Lots of technical sections and you start with a climb. Sweet views once you get to the top and Maxwell Falls is pretty cool. If you like going downhill the you'll like this place. Some kids broke all the signs so make sure to look at a map. Would be a fun shuttle run if your a downhiller! Blows Apex away!
Thank |Nasty!! Super fun, you can lap it over and over again, very short climb to the top for some cool, fast downhill along the river. The cliff loop is cool, fun rocks to jib around on. Maxwell kills Buffalo Creek!! * Review edited 9/6/2010
Thank |This trail was very rocky in sections and steep enough that I had to hike-a-bike 3-4 times. About 1.5mi in you'll see the Cliff loop to the right, you can take that or continue .5mi to the falls (also where the Cliff loop connects back to the main trail). About .7mi past the falls you hit the upper parking lot. Coming back from the upper parking lot, there is a no name trail to the right. I took that trail a couple of miles along the top of a ridge and then down a steep, washed out loose rocky downhill back to the lower parking lot. There are some fun sections and the ride back down is really good, but overall this trail is a much better hiking trail than a mtn bike trail.
