Mountain Biking Mount Falcon Park

****   Add a review
#40 of 1,392 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#245 in the world

The ride is actually a 'lollipop' configuration with an out and back attached to a loop at the
top. Ride up the Castle trail where you'll climb about 1800 feet in 3.5 miles. Once you get
to the restrooms, turn left onto the Parmalee trail. Here you'll drop about 400 feet down
some nice singletrack. The trail will then climb back up to an intersection with the Meadow
Trail. Take a right on the Meadow trail. The trail will come back to the Castle trail. Take a
right for a fast ride back to your car. Most of the trail is wide singletrack but watch for other
trail users - this trail is pretty popular.

It is a fun trail. Not for begginers and good for climbers.

The top loops are a good place to spin around with the kids. The east side trail is a lung burner for a fat guy like me.

The trail was great! It was icy so I'm glad I stared early. By the time I was finished, about 930 am. The thaw cycle had already begun. A bit of a climb from the East parking lot, but the down hill is always fun

Really love this trail! I'm new to mountain biking, so I had to stop and walk every so often, due to the intensive climb. But it's so beautiful, and so worth the decent!!!

LOVE IT! This was my 7th trail on a mountain bike, so it was tough for a newbie like me. THe parmalee trail has some great technical spots, and a few opportunities for small airs. The uphills are steep, loose, and strenuous though, so be prepared for that. Gorgeous views, and only a short drive from denver.

This a great trail if you are looking for a workout and some gorgeous views. The first 3.5 miles are 2,400 ft. of elevation gain so be prepared for that. The water bars are definitely annoying but the majority are towards the bottom half of the first accent. Get there early, 8 or 9 AM, if you want to be the weekend crowds. Enjoy!

Great trai! A bit of a lung buster on the incline but the lollipop at the top is fun and some moderately challenging technical sections.. Overall a blast and a good workout! Make sure you have good pads on your breaks for the way down.. Or just let loose and fly! Watch out for others.. Go early (break of dawn) to avoid the crowds..

Excellent, tough climb--extended steep grade. The bottom half is mostly smooth with a few waterbars as the only tech. The upper half gets rockier. Technically, it's all rideable by a competent rider, but the grade makes it a real challenge. Once on top, its mostly wide and all easy. If you want do do just the easy stuff, start at the upper (West) end. The descent back down the Castle Trail is a real hoot, but this is also a popular hiking venue, so be careful, especially around blind corners.

Excellent trail! Lots of climbing with a few very technical sections. The main Castle Trail is very wide (about 5 ft) but has enough rocky sections to keep it interesting. I like the fact that this system has many options to extend your ride and add on some technical challenges. Old Ute and the Devil's Elbow are very short but very technical add-ons that are not as highly trafficked as the rest of the area. Be careful though, there are few root/rock drops that sneak up on you.

starts really easy, some switchbacks and rock gardens. Lots of uphill climbing. Meadows up above. Sweet hard ride.

We rode up from the parking lot and I do have to say this is probably some the most climbing I have done on the front range it sure put me in my place. A positive leg burner especially when your not use to that altitude. The downhill was fun much better then the climb up. Overall it's an okay trail but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. To many people on the trail, water bars really make the climbing harder.

Although it is close to Denver, within 20 minutes of my house, I tend not to come here. It's very busy with alot of hikers that have dogs and other mountain bikers. You can either start at the front side and do a climb up to get to a network of trails or start in the backside and already be there. The frontside downhill is pretty fun but all the other trails on top are not that fun. They are sort and very rocky.

The climb up Castle is not bad at all if you are a strong climber. The only technical challenges are a couple of short sections with rocks and water bars. Add in Parmalee and Old Ute Trails if you want the extra technical challenge in addition to mileage and climbing. Those trails are very scenic as well! Watch the speed going back down Castle due to the blind curves, riders/hikers coming up the trail, and loose spots.

Wow!! So I decided to give this trail a go thinking I was ready for the challenge. My sea-level based lungs were so not ready for this challenge and neither was my skill level. I've considered myself intermediate but after this ride I might think twice on that one! The downhill makes the climb worth the work though.

The climb never lets up. There's no real flat parts to catch your breath, but the trail is manicured enough that it is ridable if you're a cardio stud. There are some cool ruins on top and the loop around the mountain is very fun.

Winter Update: The trail is almost completely clear except 2-3 short sections of packed snow!

I rode up Castle Trail and a lap around Old Ute as the first leg of a "5 Parks" loop today. This was my first time at Mount Falcon and was impressed by the Castle Trail. I found it a lot more ride-able than I was expecting; I think I pushed my bike about 50 yards altogether, most of that getting past the first 10 water-bars down low (I've seen much better designed trail in other JeffCo parks BTW). The other 95%, though, was pretty pleasant surface and grade.
Sad that I went off the backside and didn't get to descend Castle, I can't wait to go back.

This trail starts off easy enough, but the top 1/3 gets fun so keep a little extra in the tank.
