Mountain Biking Northern Skyline
#40 of 710 mountain bike trails in Utah
Head North on the trail and climb, climb, climb. Smoothly at first, bumpier later on. Much of this trail climbs in excess of a 10% grade so be fit. Turn around whenever you've had enough. If you make it to the top of the ridge, you can make a loop by descending the Ben Lomond trail (go right/east) and take paved roads back to your car, but that means a brutal climb up the pavement back up to the North Ogden Divide. If you're really energetic (or masochistic), turn left and begin the excruciating ride (hike-a-bike) to the Ben Lomond summit. This ride has it all--killer climb, rippin' descent, great views, and the opportunity to extend it into a true epic.

From Ogden, head east on 3100N--it will turn into North Ogden Canyon Road. Park at the top of the divide.

Very eroded at the beginning. Turns into gravel halfway up. There are way too many motos on this trail. Go to snow basin instead.
Thank |Epic Ogden ride-the early switchbacks are brutal on a Clydesdale like me, but the views up top are spectacular and the downhill-AWESOME! Difficulty rating strictly for the initial climb, not too technical other than the switchbacks. Bring lots of hydration and snaks.
Thank |This trail is a good climb throughout, challenging but definitely something that even an early intermediate can do. Good, tough aerobic workout, not extremely technical other than a few spots. Lots of fun riding back down, and very fast. You can make this an epic ride by starting at the North Ogden Pass and riding to the peak of Ben Lomond, then riding down from there to Willard Basin, down to Mantua. Park and ride as this option, although I normally just ride up to the ridge a ways, maybe even to the saddle before turning and going back.
