Lower Dogwood starts off with a few quick creek crossings, then turns into flowing trails. Follow the arrows across the road to Hargis.
Hargis is one of the fastest trails at Barber Hills with a lot of flow. There are a few fun up and down's over bridges and fast off-camber turns.
Lower Dogwood has a couple of great views of Pat Mayse Lake. Don't get too relaxed because the steepest climb at Barber Hills comes up quickly after the overlooks. Right before the steep climb there is a steep wooden double drop feature that will certainly get your attention! The last part of the trail has a steep root-covered downhill with a rock covered creek bottom.
Barber starts off pretty flat and will make you think it will be an easy stroll in the woods. Get ready for the technical ascents and descents to come! Barber offers a great workout!
The first section of Buzzard Hallow starts off with some amazing views of Pat Mayse Lake with some climbing and fast descents to follow.
Milkweed leaves the Pat Mayse dam area paralleling the highway It soon heads away from the road with some technical areas to navigate. There is a great climb at the end of the trail leading up to the Corp office fence. At the end of the fence take a right to the start of the Upper Bedford.
Upper Bedford dives back into the woods from the Corp Road and quickly turns into a technical trail that has many roots and elevation changes before ending up at the Inner Loop. Your heart rate should be up by now!
There is not much to say about the Inner Loop but that it's a fun, fast trail! Most of the trail has great flow with a few dirt jumps and logs to hop over mixed in. Overall, a super-fast trail with great traction year around!
Lower Bedford leaves the Inner Loop with a downhill section that has a small air catching ledge with a short climb after. The trail then turns into a fun fast trail that is a lot like the Inner Loop. Lower Bedford is probably the second most ridden trail at Barber Hills.
Bottom Bracket starts out with probably the fastest downhill at Barber Hills! Tee it high and let it fly!! After the first section, it goes into a switchback area with several climbs. In the middle of the trail lies the 45 foot skinny bridge across an area that holds water after it rains. The back side of the trail has several fast creek crossings with bridges to help keep your speed up. The last part of the trail has a long climb with a switchback the leads to the last flat section.
Deer run is a great flowing trail that parallel's the corp road before finally crossing it and ending up back at the Sanders Cove trailhead. Try climbing the rock covered "Crusty Hill" on your way out of Deer Run!
Easy Rider is a short beginner trail with lots of turns and not much elevation change that's close to the Sanders Cove trailhead.
Great single track action with plenty of obstacles and climbs. Very well kept by the locals. Probably one of the best trails in the area.
Thank |First time on the these trails and it was a blast. I only got to ride about half the trails this time but ill be back soon to ride the rest.
Thank |Trails are in great shape! New trails added this winter. Now about 13 miles of trails. There's trails for the beginner to the experienced riders. Come to Sanders Cove trailhead on right just before guard shack.
Thank |Still a great trail, in good shape. There were a couple dead falls that I wasn't up to hopping over and some that even I could ride. I found it to be very physically challenging for an old guy on a hot day with a heavy pack. There are dozens of steep climbs mostly not too long, but they make for a good bit of cranking.
Thank |Local riders had a work day on the 22nd of March to get the ice storm damage clean up completely finished. We also started system of reflective arrows to show direction of the main trail and to show all of the short cuts and trail heads. All parts of the trails are in super shape! Pat Mayse is the hidden gem of trails in NE Texas!
Thank |What could be "one" of the best trails in Texas, sadly should be condemed and shut down until maintenance can be done to make it rideable. Spent more time off the bike climbing over fallen trees and limbs than I did riding. Could hardly see the trail due to leaves, sticks, brush, and limbs. Hard for a trail to get worn in when it can't be ridden. Luckily I found my way out by riding a wide grassy expanse of terrain to the main road at the end of the lake's dam. But, beware of taking the road back to the park, because the fastest pit bull in Lamar County will be waiting for you. And how about some signage, trail-head markers, maps, something? Did I mention it started raining on me? Geez.
Thank |I ride this trail 2-3 times a week. Great trail with great flow through the turns and good up and downs. Momentum is the key to a smooth fast ride on this trail. Well maintained and only occasionally is there a tree down. Would recommend to anyone who like a fast ride though the woods with some twist and turns.
Thank |I've been riding these trails for two years and never get tired of them. I've been to Northlake in Gravevine and that's got nothing other than length on these awesome trails. These trails have something for almost everyone... Plenty of fast sections, ample technical sections, and amazing views. Great rhythm to the trails with a good mix of fast drops and steady climbs. Beginners start with the inner loop. Advanced take the south loop. In the summer, bring bug spray and a soapy rag to wipe the poison ivy off your legs!
Thank |Due to relatively low traffic on this trail, it seems to stay in pretty good shape. I've ridden here several times, while working in the area over the last five years. I clear what felled trees/tops I can, when necessary. Good flow, for all the fall-line drops. Not too eroded, considering light traffic. Heavy rain/age is exposing more roots on some fall-line sections, but all lines are totally do-able, w/proper skills. There is an outer loop in the photo shown in red. The inner loop isn't shown, but ties back into the main. Most of the east-side is pretty flat. Sweet rollers south & west, pretty much all sections close to the lake & inlets to the lake. Momentum is the rule on the drops. Gear selection & power on the climb outs. Look long & read ahead for a good experience. Stay off the brakes, get behind that saddle & roll! A 29er will treat you with a big smile here!
Thank |I had a supper good time, not counting a bone headed fall. Mostly a lot of rideing in the woods. What little tech there is is all around stream and ravine crossings, with very steap drop ins and climb outs. There's a good bit of up and down but no long cardio monsters. :) There were a few trees down that need work and I cut one away from a bridge, but over all well maintand with a lot of nice new bridges in or being put in. Best parking is probly on rt 906 next to Dam at the picnic area. I asked at the gate but no fee for rideing but there is a parking fee in the camp sights.
Thank |The trail makes around a 10 mile loop with lots of over looks of the lake and plenty of fun single track. I ride this trail 3 to 4 times a week and its a very fun trail. The last time I was out all the bridges were in place and there was only 1 tree down across the trail.
Thank |This trail is a pretty challenging for the beginner. The first time that I went was with a beginner and he fell 3 times. The last time he flipped over his bars and got a flat... and thus the ride ended. Other than that the trail really was pretty fun. I wish there were more jumps. Most of the trail was pretty technical though. It was difficult to see what was coming next, because there was so much under brush in a lot of areas, elevation changes, and bends on the track. I will be back!!!

Thank |This trail travels around the east side of Pat Mayse Lake, and has quite a few up and downs. When I went, a lot of the bridges had been washed out do to the abnormally high water levels... and where there's high water there's mud. Other than that this trail was pretty sweet. I didn't get to finish the trail, because I started it late in the day and it got too dark. Hopefully, I can update this description later after a few more rides.
