Mountain Biking Penwood State Park

*****   Add a review
#12 of 113 mountain bike trails in Connecticut
#1,746 in the world

An extensive trail system envelopes this hill top park with many scenic views of the Farmington River Valley. There's single track that traverses within inches of 200 foot cliffs. There are connections to trail systems both North and South from Penwood. Heading South, you can ride through Talcot Mountain to West Hartford Reservoirs. Truly Epic riding potential

Overall there is some solid singletrack riding, but some parts are unridable and i mean that. There is a good trail head and the trails are marked very well. I would go there again and it is worth the 20 minute drive for myself

This was one of the first trails I hit after getting into the sport. I consider myself a novice and found this trail very challenging. Even so, I found it extremely fun and exhilarating. Lots of diverse terrain on this trail ranging from thick roots to slate stone. I had to go cautiously and slowly, but still had a blast.

There's an entrance to the trail near the parking lot of the park. Midway up the driveway leading to the parking lot, on the left side of the road. This entrance requires a bit of climbing and carrying the bike, but gives way to a steady climb after 100ft of trail or so.

Great ride. Great views long challenging trails take the orange trail out to the end and back. It's a good 6miles of challenging terrain and some great views. Ride 1 mile in from the paring lot then go left up the hill and look out. Then ride to the right after looking over the cliff.

Fun trail, with long gradual hike at first. Fast single track once you are at the top. Stick to edge of the trail so cliffs are on your left. Not for beginners unless carying the bike is your description of fun.
