Okay so this isn’t a gadget blog and GPS is really only a mountain bike accessory but I had to write about the newest outdoor unit from Magellan. The Triton 2000 is perhaps the closest thing to the GPS unit I would have designed for myself, though it’s performance on the bike is a bit of a question mark at this time.
Check this out: while the Triton has all the features you’d expect in a GPS these days (color screen, SD memory, WAAS capability) it also has some things you’ve never seen in an outdoor GPS like a touch screen and built in LED flashlight. Even cooler is the integrated MP3 player and – wait for it – a 2 megapixel digital camera for snapping geo-tagged pics! The Triton 2000 also packs in a digital voice recorder and National Geographic Map capabilities plus it looks pretty slick and “outdoorsy.” No word on bike mounts yet but if/when they are available the Triton 2000 could become a good choice for mountain bikers.
