Nino Schurter of Switzerland and Jenny Rissveds of Sweden, both sponsored by Scott Sports and riding the new ultra-lightweight Spark, both took gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics XC mountain bike race.
In the men’s race, Jaroslav Kulhavy took silver after a hard-fought battle with Schurter, and Carlos Coloma Nicolas took bronze after a hard-fought battle with 4th place Maxime Marotte.
In the women’s race, Maja Wloszczowska of Poland took silver, Catharine Pendrel of Canada took bronze, and Emily Batty of Canada took 4th, just two seconds behind Pendrel.
Peter Sagan, the current road cycling world champion, suffered a flat tire and took 35th place.

Before the event, the big story was Peter Sagan sitting out of the road cycling race because he thought he had a better chance at a medal in MTB. Apparently his flat tire was due to a crash on a technical section of the course which doesn't look good for the roadie. :)
