Niner has revamped their steel mountain bike fork so it’s now compatible with some of the newest standards. Most notably, the fork now offers 110mm Boost hub spacing and comes with a thru axle. With this hub spacing and plenty of vertical room, the fork is compatible with 27.5+, 29″, and 29+ tire/wheel combinations.
The rigid fork is suspension-corrected for “100mm forks with a 490mm axle to crown measurement,” according to Niner. The fork features a 51mm offset and is disc brake only, with a max rotor size of 180mm. The steerer tube is tapered, so if you have an older singlespeed (for example) with a straight 1 and 1/8″ steerer tube and are looking for a new fork–sorry, no dice.
My favorite feature is the inclusion of bottle cage/rack mounts on the fork legs, allowing you to carry extra water or gear–up to 45-pounds.
At 3.37lbs the Niner steel fork isn’t light, but the $179 price is definitely right!
