Gore-Tex leads the constant quest to create the ultimate “highly breathable and completely waterproof” jacket. Combine those contradictory terms with “ultra-lightweight and packable,” and the challenge becomes even more difficult.
Gore claims to have achieved all of these attributes with their new SHAKEDRY technology, but initially, the white PTFE membrane of the jacket could only be dyed black. However, Gore Wear has figured out a way to offer this new fabric tech in multiple rain jacket colors for increased visibility on the road and trail. For now, Gore is offering SHAKEDRY jackets in blue and gray; unfortunately high vis colors still aren’t possible with this fabric.
However, Gore still wanted to launch a high vis model, and they did so with the Gore C5 Gore-Tex Viz models. To incorporate the high vis color, Gore added Active Shell fabric around the cuffs, which can be dyed with the brighter colors. “All GORE-TEX® SHAKEDRY™ jackets for men and women are also equipped with reflective elements,” Gore Wear notes in their press release.
