Niner just introduced the ROS 9 Plus, a steel 29er with fat 3″ tires and a custom rigid fork to maximize clearance. The company describes the geometry as “playful […] with very short chainstays and slack head tube angle.”

The frame is a classic Niner design with the ability to run a stealth dropper cable and removeable cable guides if you choose to go singlespeed.  From the sounds of it, the bike is 1X compatible only so it’s limited to singlespeed or 1×11 (no word on whether 1×10 or 1×9 builds will be available.) The reason: short chainstays and fat tires limit the bike to a single chainring up front.

The custom Niner fork allows the company to spec fat 29er tires and the chromoly fork is kitted with a 15mm through axle for maximum stiffness. The ROS 9 Plus is only available as a complete build and the standard includes 780mm bars, Shimano brakes, and an X1 drivetrain. The rear axle is 142x12mm which is a nice touch.

MSRP on the standard build is $2999, though we don’t yet know about shipping dates. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to demo this new bike at Interbike in a few weeks!
