This morning, Stan’s announced two new additions to their carbon wheel offerings: the Crest CB7 and Arch CB7. Both carbon rims share similar profiles with their aluminum counterparts. The Crest CB7, aimed at XC racers, has a 23mm internal width to pair with 2.00-2.25″ tires. With a 26mm internal width, the Arch CB7 pairs nicely with trail tires in the 2.25-2.50″ range.
Stan’s claims to have created a rim that can deflect up to 10mm vertically through their RiACT layup technology. Benefits of this design are said to include a more comfortable ride, a faster-rolling wheel, and fewer pinch flats.
The wheelsets will be available beginning in February 2018 for $1,399 for either the Crest CB7 or Arch CB7. Complete wheelsets come laced to 28-hole Stan’s Neo hubs with triple-butted Sapim spokes (lighter Force spokes on the Crest and heavier duty Race on the Arch). The Crest CB7 wheelset comes in 29″ only and weighs in at just 1,452g. The Arch CB7 wheelsets have 27.5″ or 29″ options with weights of 1,720g and 1,794g, respectively.
Custom wheel builders can purchase the rims in 28- or 32-hole drillings to lace up to any hub. Individual rims sell for $600/each. Stan’s claims the 29″ Crest CB7 rim weighs 325g, with Arch CB7 weighing in at 450g (27.5″) or 475g (29″).
Finally, the new CB7 rims and wheelsets come with 2 years of coverage under Stan’s warranty. If you register your complete wheelsets with Stan’s after purchase, coverage is extended an additional 3 years. However, both the complete wheels and rims receive a lifetime crash replacement policy, which gets you 50% off a comparable product should you break a rim.
