A new St. George, UT housing development will dedicate nearly a third of its total acreage to open space and trails for hiking and mountain biking.
Divario will be the first mixed use community in St. George and incorporates and preserves the existing recreational land with a new housing community in one of the fastest growing cities in Utah.
The master plan calls for 200 acres of the 730 dedicated to hiking and mountain bike trails. The plan also calls for an events center and 26 acres for commercial development.
“I am personally excited to see Divario take shape into a community that embraces the property’s natural beauty and expansive views,” said Mayor of St. George, Jon Pike.
“This property has been a local favorite for mountain biking, climbing, and hiking enthusiasts and will remain so through preservation of numerous natural canyons and trails. Even more exciting is the developer’s commitment to continue the mountain biking events and senior games that have been held here every year and the planned dedication of a community park and event center to stage the races and other cultural events.”
Divario is approved for over 3,000 single and multi-family homes. The Divario site has 20 years of mountain biking and racing history in its area and is known for its technical and tough terrain, with trails like Zen close by.
The area, known as Green Valley held events like the American Mountain Bike Challenge National Finals in the late 1990s. The BLM adopted the trails in 2002 as the Red Bluff Competitive Area. Now it holds events like the True Grit Epic, Red Rock Rampage, the Huntsman World Senior Games, and the NICA High School Championship. Red Bull Rampage is also held a short drive down the road in October every year.
“We’re so appreciative that the Divario team recognized the property’s mountain biking value and history, and it’s been great working with them and the BLM and City of St. George,” said Cimarron Chacon, who organizes several of the mountain biking events. “Needless to say, it was of great concern to our community to maintain access to such a rich recreational resource for both locals and visitors alike.”
Divario will be located in southwest St. George near Sunbrook Drive and Plantations Drive. Home sales will start in early fall 2019, with the buildout expected to finish in 2029.
