Most of the winter has finally melted in the Italian Alps, just in time for rounds one and two of the Enduro World Series. Trail builders in Canazei, Italy, cleared more than 600 trees on one trail alone, after shoveling snow on others to try and open things up at the highest elevation possible. The hope was to have different trails for the first two rounds, but given the weather constraints, racers will repeat the same four tracks in the race Friday and Saturday that they rode the Wednesday prior.
Round one on Wednesday starts with a steep and loose stage called Titans that drops 636 meters over 2.71 kilometers. Riders will pedal up to the second stage, called Ciasates, for a short rip down 218 meters of vertical that’s just 1.24 kilometers long. Animal House trail comes next with 3.41 kilometers of pedal-heavy riding that includes 473 meters of elevation loss between a few lung smashing climbs. Finally, everyone gets to enjoy the view from atop the beloved Tutti Frutti trail that brings them back to the race village after 6.55 kilometers of rough descending and a full 980 meter drop.
The second round kicks off with a televised viewing of the Pro Stage on Titans, followed by all of the same trails as the prior round, culminating in a final slide down Titans to finish off the weekend.
We got a chance to ride the media recce, searching for the best spots to shoot photos, and the video below shows a leisurely stroll through the four stages.
