Transrockies, known for hosting races for runners, roadies, and mountain bikers alike, is expanding to the iconic trails of Moab, Utah with the 3-day race Moab Rocks on October 10-12, 2015.
Many have enjoyed riding signature trails like Klondike, Porcupine Rim and Mag 7, but few have raced them. Moab Rocks offers entrants the rare opportunity to hit these trails in a whole new way, with a number plate on and the intensity of racing against the clock. (Transrockies)
The 3-day race takes racers on some of the classic trails in Moab. Day 1 covers over 32 miles, with 5,000 feet of elevation gain. Racers are rewarded with a 3,400 feet of descending along Porcupine Rim trail.
Moab Rocks is offering a unique spin on the classic mountain bike race. While designed as an XC-race with awards given for best time for each stage and overall, organizers have thrown in timed descents as well. Each stage offers one timed descent, with awards also given for best time for each stage and overall.
Day 2 covers over 27 miles along Klondike. The timed descent is 3.1 miles long, with over 200 feet of climbing and over 700 feet of descending.
The final day is along the iconic Magnificent 7 trail. Riders will tackle another 30 miles of singletrack and jeep roads along with 3,500 feet of climbing. The final timed descent drops 1,850 feet with 650 feet of climbing.
If don’t have the lungs or legs for three days of racing, Transrockies also offers racers the option to do a 1-day race on either the first or third stage. The after party includes awards and beer from Moab brewery.
