Mt. Prevost building 10 “world-class” DH trails
The Cowichan Trail Stewardship Society is working to develop ten sanctioned downhill mountain bike trails on Mt. Prevost. The mountain is located south of Nanaimo, British Columbia and is said to be where Steve “Chainsaw” Smith trained as a young rider.
Georgia awards RTP funding to MTB trails
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources recently announced the latest Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant recipients. A few mountain bike proposals received funding including a project to rehab singletrack trails along the Augusta Canal, construction of four miles of MTB trails at Wilderness Camp Greenspace in Bartow County, and the creation of three new intermediate and expert level bike trails along Carters Lake near Ellijay.
Segnes Trail Opens in Swiss Mountain Resort
The Segnes trail has officially opened in Laax, Switzerland, home to the Swiss Mountain Resort. The town lies 90-minutes outside of Zurich. It is the second trail to finish under a new plan to create six new routes in the area. According to a press release, “Segnes will be aimed at advanced bikers eager for diverse terrain and provides direct connection to the start of the highly popular Runca Trail.” The trail will start at 2,100m (6,889ft) above sea level and is 2.7Km (1.7 miles) long and drops 310m (1,017) in elevation.
Holimont Bike Park opens green-rated freeride trail, Sundown
Holimont Bike Park, located near Ellicottville, New York in the Finger Lakes region, opened a new green-rated freeride trail this summer called Sundown. The trail crew there is already working on building another new trail, an intermediate jump trail, that is slated to open in Spring, 2023.
Class 1 eMTBs gain trial access on most CAMBA trails
A one-year trial of Class 1 e-bike access was recently approved for many of the trails within the CAMBA trail system in northern Wisconsin. E-bikes are allowed to ride several trails within the Hayward, Seeley, Cable, and Mt. Ashwabay Clusters, though notably not on the Rock Lake epic. New trails open at Big Bar Guest Ranch
Members of the Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation in south Cariboo, British Columbia recently celebrated the completion of two mountain bike trails at Big Bar Guest Ranch, including an advanced-rated, 3.3km downhill trail called Lost Marbles. The project took three years to complete with First Journey Trails leading the construction.
Coldwater Fat Tire Festival tickets on sale
Mountain bikers around the southeast likely know of the trails at Coldwater mountain. Coldwater and the town of Anniston are an IMBA-certified Bronze level Ride Center, and this fall the club that helps maintain the trails, NEABA, is hosting the Coldwater Mountain Fat Tire Fest October 21-23. The event features camping, group rides, a beer garden, live music, and skills clinics, with ticket sales supporting the local club. Click for more info.
