Electronic shifting may be the future, but not for Archer Components. The Santa Cruz, California-based company announced this week that it is ceasing operations after nearly ten years in the business. The brand was best known for its wireless shift conversion kit that transformed a purely mechanical drivetrain into a hybrid, wireless electronic system using a battery powered shift controller and chainstay-mounted shifter.

In a press release, Brandon Rodgers, Archer co-founder and CEO said, “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the current market dynamics have made it unsustainable for us to continue full-scale operations. We are deeply grateful to our customers, partners, and the cycling community for their support over the years.”

As of press time, only a few remaining shift controllers are available for sale on the Archer website. Though the company is shutting down and is likely under no obligation to do so, they have vowed to continue supporting former customers, writing “We understand the importance of reliability and trust in our products, and we will continue to provide warranty services to ensure your satisfaction. For any warranty support, please contact us at [email protected].”
