Like saddle angles, there doesn’t seem to be a consensus on flat pedal profiles for mountain biking. Some riders feel more planted and comfortable with pedals that dip in the middle (concave) while others like a high middle with lower edges (convex). And some prefer a completely flat, flat pedal.
If you answered convex or concave, tell us if you like them slightly so — or extremely so! — in the comments below.

Until recently I was smashing a hardtail through roots and rocks at a pretty good speed on Diety Deftrap pedals. Now I’m on a Full sus again but I will very likely be swapping the pedals out for another set of Deftraps soon.
Deftraps are on the “very much so” end of the concave scale.
But not only are they nicely concave, they are also large enough to support my wide feet (size11 US).
I tried iSSi thumps (now under a new name) and while they were very concave, the platform itself was too small for me.
Tried Crankbro’s composite pedals (slightly convex) I slipped a pedal and crashed almost immediately while bombing down a fire road.

And if you are riding flats on the ball of your foot, your are riding wrong and unnecessarily working your calf muscles while gaining no benefit from that extra work.
