Germany’s Nicolai Bicycles has a pair of new shredtail frames on offer, each in five different sizes or fully custom if you prefer. The hand-built aluminum frames can be powder coated in one of fifty shades and some version of camo.

The Argon GAM Pinion.

The brand calls their latest all-mountain hardtail offering Argon GAM, and it can be ordered with a Pinion gearbox or a traditional drivetrain. The 7020 alloy frame holds a pair of 29″ wheels and a 140-160mm fork. Complete bikes start at €4,250, while external drivetrain framesets retail for €1,499 and Pinion-powered frames come in at €3,449.

Angles for the Argon GAM are what we’ve come to expect from Nicolai, with a stretched 475mm reach and 445mm chainstays on the size medium that add up to a 1,242mm wheelbase. The headtube angle for this do-it-all ride is an appropriate 65°, and the seat tube is 76.5° for a cozy climbing position that steepens with sag.

Nicolai is calling the longer-travel Argon GEN shredtail an enduro bike, with geometry optimized for a 150 to 170mm fork and a pair of 27.5 x 2.8″ tires. The longer travel GEN bikes start at €4,400, with frames priced the same as the GAM models.

Geometry around the smaller wheel diameter looks a little spicier, with a 63° headtube angle and 74° seat tube lean. Reach on the medium is shortened to 455mm, with 475mm on the size large and two longer bikes above those. Chainstays stretch between 430 and 455mm across the five sizes, lengthening as the front end does to create balance. The medium Argon GEN has 1237mm between its axles.
