Pearl Izumi describes their new Summit Jersey as a “functional but not flashy top.”  In an age of marketing hyperbole and one-upsmanship, I believe PI is actually underselling this particular offering.  The Summit Jersey is not just functional, but it truly excels at its basic function: giving the mountain bike rider a comfortable top for getting rad on the trails.

The Summit is 100% polyester, but this polyester is nothing like the infamous polyester that made your granddad’s plaid leisure suit.  It is exceptionally lightweight, looks sharp, and has exceptional moisture wicking properties.  When I ride, I sweat more than anyone I know, and the Summit kept me cool and dry through some very warm climbs during my last Moab trip.

The fit of the Summit is relaxed, yet it doesn’t feel like there’s extra material flapping about, making this the perfect companion for intense trail and enduro riding.  If you want to stay cool on the long climb and comfy on the gnarly descent, the Summit is the perfect companion.

Most of all, the Summit is the essence of simplicity.  It is a basic T design with no zippers or pockets.  Even the graphics are subdued, so you can be comfortable wearing this before and after the ride as well as during.  As for me, I couldn’t help grabbing the Summit for hikes, trail runs, and even just running errands around town.  For this kind of clothing quality and versatility to come in at just $40, I give the Summit my unqualified endorsement.  It is simply ideal for so much of what I, and most riders, do.

The Summit is available in Tibetan Red, Lime Punch, and basic Black.

Thanks to Pearl Izumi for providing the Summit Jersey for review.
