Other Fat Bike / Winter Products
Slipnot makes mountain bike tire chains for improving traction in the snow. The product uses a clean and secure method for connecting the chains, and the company claims installation takes just 5 minutes. As you can imagine, Slipnot tire chains aren’t light–I was told they add at least 2 pounds to the bike. Multiple wheel sizes are available, all priced at about $100 for a pair.
The first time many people see a fat bike they ask the question, “what is this bike designed for?” Well, with a set of white Vee Rubber fat bike tires, intended usage might be a little more obvious. Please, someone design an all white fat bike worthy of a snowy chase scene in the next James Bond movie!
Bar Mitts has an integrated bottle cage and cover designed to keep water bottles from freezing on cold rides. The neoprene case is large enough to fit a 20 ounce bottle plus a small heater pack. Not only that, the bottle cage inside is made from lightweight (and insulating) plastic. Suggested retail price is $30 USD.
I spotted this fat trike, recumbent style rig at Interbike and just had to snap a photo. Imagine bombing down a powdery slope on the ICE Full Fat!
While the pace of new fat bike development has certainly cooled down in the last few years, it’s great to see that some companies are continuing to push the limits of fat!
