Frankly, I have never experienced such a thing since there is typically plenty of forewarning before a "blowout" occurs. At today's prices, rendering a fork non rebuildable is over a grand into the fire which is sheer stupidity, a shock is not far behind that.

Last time I descended with a blown fork I blew out/ruptured my knee (patellar tendon) on the first berm. So definitely climb on blown shock, with locked out/firm setting on :)
