The Sedona Mountain Bike Festival and Sea Otter Classic both recently announced the postponement of events that had been scheduled for this spring.
Unofficially marking the start of the mountain bike season in the US, the Sedona Mountain Bike Festival, typically held in early March, is being shifted to November 12-14 for 2021.
“It likely comes as no surprise that with everything going on right now it is next to impossible to hold a Sedona Mountain Bike Festival in March of 2021. We had hoped with all of our might that things would be to a better point by now and it would look like we could provide that same great experience that you have come to expect from the Festival but it can’t be done this spring,” said Sedona Mountain Bike Festival Director Mike Raney.
According to a press release from Sedona Mountain Bike Festival, organizers are banking on dropping infection and hospitalization rates over the next several months, along with the rollout of a Covid-19 vaccine.
Sea Otter Classic, based in Monterey, California, has traditionally been held in April, and is often the first race of the season for many mountain bikers. Organizers have moved the 2021 edition to October 7-10.
