Specialized has two new shoes on offer, with the redesigned 2FO Roost flats selling for $120 and the clipless version at a reasonable $130. Shoes are a piece of kit that often sticks around for a few seasons, and those prices seem fair when spread across several hundred kilometers of trail fun.
The 2FO Roost flat pedal kicks come with the brand’s SlipNot rubber that’s said to provide a positively connected sensation without feeling gummy or squishy on the pedal. If you don’t love the band that shares a similarly spelled name with that compound, not to worry, it isn’t written on the shoe anywhere. Specialized says that the suede and smooth leather upper makes for a comfortable fit while providing durability. The upper is lined with their Xpel™ Airmesh that’s reportedly lighter weight than traditional padding and still provides the necessary protection. The flats are available in black or oak-green.
Newly redesigned 2FO Roost clipless shoes from Specialized have many of the same construction properties as the flats, adding a long cleat channel under the ball of the foot. The clipless version gets a nylon shank for increased pedal stiffness, and a perforated synthetic upper to increase breathability while maintaining durability. The clipless model is available in black/gum or taupe.
Stay tuned for a full review of the 2FO Roost clipless shoes in the coming months.
