Mondraker has an updated version of their racey Podium XC bike out for racers who want a slightly slacker machine to tackle technical climbs and descent like those in the modern World Cup circuit. At just 775g for the size medium, this high modulus carbon fiber 29er frame is not going to be the reason racers don’t find themselves on their local XC podium. Base build options will start at €4,199.
Cross country geometry is looking more fun-focused with every new frame. The full carbon Podium has a 68.5° head tube angle and a 44mm offset, 444mm reach on the size medium, 430mm chainstays on all four sizes, and a moderate 73° actual seat tube angle. That’s a massive shift from the road bike geometry of 71° head tubes and sub 400mm reach measurements we saw on XC machines not long ago.
All four builds include the SRAM universal derailleur hanger to make finding replacements easier, a Fizik Antares saddle, Maxxis Ikon tires, internal cable routing, boost axle spacing, and they are all designed around a 100mm fork.
The updated Podium will come in four different builds to suit a few weight and wallet requirements. The top shelf Podium Carbon RR SL model rolls on Mavic CrossMax Carbon SLR wheels powered by a SRAM XX1 Eagle drivetrain, smoothed by a RockShox SID SL Ultimate up front. Second-tier bikes receive a lot of the same lightweight build parts, with a SRAM X01 drivetrain. On the third step of the Podium lineup, the Carbon R bike has a Fox 32 Float FIT4 EVOL SC fork in place of the SID, a Shimano XT drivetrain, and a DT Swiss XR1700 Spline wheelset. Finally, the base build also rolls on the DT Swiss XR1700 Spline tubeless wheels, with a SID SL Select under the bars, and a Truvativ Stylo 7K Eagle drivetrain.
