Germany’s YT Industries surprised aluminum frame fans with a limited edition of the Capra last fall, and now the brand has two new bruiser builds on offer with the alloy Capra and Decoy models. While YT does currently offer the Capra Base in baseball-bat material for $/€2,299, this latest “Shred” iteration comes stock with a coil shock and a host of other robust bits, with either 29″ or 27.5″ wheels for $/€3,499.
The electrified Decoy frame, however, has used a carbon fiber front triangle and aluminum rear end from day one, and the Base model retails for $/€4,399 while the Pro Race model, covered in Kashima, sells for $/€6,599. This recent full-metal “Shred” build will be a welcome surprise for some riders, with the same burlier spec as the Capra and a retail price of $/€5,999.
Capra Shred 29″ or 27.5″
The Capra is a 170/180mm bike in the 27.5″ platform, and an even 170mm front and rear on the 29″ version. The 27.5″ bikes come in five sizes, with reach measurements spanning between 415 and 495mm, and varied chainstay lengths from 427 to 432mm to balance the fun. Middle-wheeled Capra’s get a proper sendy 65° head tube angle, an average 75° seat tube angle, with 8mm of BB drop.
The 29″ platform starts a little larger, with four reach options between 440 and 500mm, and chainstay measurements from 435 to 440mm. Wagon-wheeled frames have a flip chip to adjust the headtube angle between 65° and 65.5°, seat tube angle from 75.5° to 76°, and the BB drops either 25 or 15mm.
The most notable differences between the new Capra Shred builds and existing alloy Capra bikes is the Fox DHX2 coil shock and Fox Performance 38 fork. With those suspension tools on deck, the Capra Shred can be thrown even harder at the big rocks. The new build includes a full SRAM GX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain, Code R brakes, e*13 LG1 EN wheels, a YT Postman dropper, and an Assegai/Minion DHR II tire combo with EXO+ casing in the rear.
Decoy Shred mixed-wheel
The YT Decoy is a sturdy electric shred sled, with 165mm of rear axle travel and a 170mm fork. Like the Capra 29″ frames, the Decoy uses a flip-chip to slide between 65° and 65.5° head tube angles, 75.5° and 76° seat tube angles, with a 25 or 15mm BB drop between its 29″ front wheel and 27.5+ rear. The power supply on the Decoy is a 250W Shimano E-8000 with an SMP YT Custom 36V battery.
Following in the goat’s footsteps, the Decoy Shred model gets a Fox DHX2 damper and Float Performance 38 fork, an e*spec Plus wheelset from e*13, SRAM Code R brakes, a full Shimano XT 12-speed drivetrain, YT Postman dropper, and the same tire combination as the Capra, though the rear on the Decoy is 27.5″ x 2.8 and the Assegai out front is a 29″ x 2.5″.
