Idyllwild Trails, Idyllwild-Pine Cove, CA
The Idyllwild trails have so much going for them, I still struggle to figure out why they continue to languish in obscurity. There are many miles of high quality singletrack. There are seemingly endless options for various loop selections. There’s amazing variety with fast and flowy, technical, huge drops, and constant rock formations, often incorporated into the trail. These trails all sit in an absolutely magnificent pine forest (I saw pine cones the size of footballs!). They sit close to the valley but rise high above it, providing a welcome respite from the heat down low The last time I rode there, the valley was hitting the 90s while the mercury on the mountain was struggling to find 70 degrees. What’s not to like?

And yes, Greens is my fave, but the cat's already out of the bag on that one. Part of the joy of Agate is it's also the one descent you're likely to have to yourself.

But over 1/2 of everyone I've taken on it won't do it again. I think it's because they think it's gonna be a DH and they get worked on it.
I love that I've cleared everything on it, but never on the same ride--there's always a challenge there.
