When I attended the Northern Utah Mountain Bike (NUMB) Festival in Vernal, I got to ride three excellent trail systems. Of the three, McCoy Flats was the most popular, and to me, the least interesting. We rode McCoy on the first of the three days, and were perfectly satisfied until we hit other trail systems on subsequent days. McCoy is comprised of lots of stacked loops that meander aimlessly across the high desert, occasionally making use of natural rock features, but doing so far less effectively than the much less popular Red Fleet trail system on the other side of town. The trail system just seemed to lack personality. It’s one of those trails I’m glad I rode once, but feel no compulsion to return to, unlike Vernal’s other trail systems.
