For the first time ever, Big Bear Mountain Resort (BBMR) will spin its lifts for skiers and mountain bikers at the same time. Big Bear just dropped a surprise announcement that its Snow Valley Bike Park will open on Saturday, April 19, for the 2025 season — more than a month early.

There’s still plenty of snow up on the mountain, so trail crews are hard at work to get as many of the mountain bike trails as possible open for this weekend. While work is still in progress, the resort expects to open with all mountain bike trails except for Quick Draw and Bandit.

Big Bear can run for both skiing and biking because it boasts three different base areas: Bear Mountain, Snow Summit, and Snow Valley. Skiing and snowboarding will take place at the Bear Mountain base area, with several lifts spinning, including chairs 4, 5, and 9. Mountain biking, on the other hand, will take place at the Snow Valley base area.

“Several factors [are] at play” in the early bike park opening, said Justin Kanton, BBMR Advertising and PR Director. “With warmer temps, the snow at Valley was melting out fast enough that an early opening was made possible. The trail crew is putting in some serious work to make it happen and the result is added value to our season pass holders. Weather permitting, we’re looking at a 7-month-long season.”

The mountain is still holding several pockets of melting snow, and the moisture “is making for some primo trail conditions,” according to Kanton.

Snow Valley Bike Park will be open only on the weekends through the first weekend of June, after which it will resume week-long operations. BBMR also announced that the Summit Bike Park is tentatively scheduled to open on June 6, conditions permitting.
