This month sees some truly impressive trail openings, many of which have been years in the making. From a hand-built flow trail in California to a private bike park in Montana and a 10-mile trail around a mountain in Georgia, it’s never been a better time to be a mountain biker.

Coal Basin Ranch (Redstone, Colorado): The trails at Coal Basin Ranch had a soft opening this month, with official signage and finishing touches to be added later. The property was formerly a part of a coal mining operation, and in later years was purchased by the Walton Family.

Cotter Pines (Coree, Australian Capital Territory): The Cotter Pines trail network was constructed by Kowalski Brothers Trailworks, Iconic Trails, and Pedal Power ACT. Newly-opened trails include Eagle Rock, Sneaky Pete, and Dazed and Confused.

Granite Creek Discovery Trail (Prescott, Arizona): A new Pump track was added thanks to the Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance.

Knowlton Forest (Concord, New Hampshire): NEMBA spearheaded the effort to get two trails built at Knowlton Forest.

Legacy Bike Park (Lakeside, Montana): The bike park, located on private land, features 13 trails and opened to the public this month.

Lily Lake Trail (South Lake Tahoe, California): The Lily Lake Trail was built in coordination with Northstar Resort and TAMBA. It officially opened June 30.

Michigan Sugar Trails (Bay City, Michigan): Closed for the past two years due to flooding, the Michigan Sugar Trails were recently re-built and re-opened.

Midland Trail Park (Midland, Texas): Two approximately four mile loops are available for beginner and intermediate riders. A daily pass or membership in the Permian Basin Bicycle Association is required to ride.

Rocky Face Ridge Park (Dalton, Georgia): SORBA and the Whitfield County Parks and Recreation Department worked together to get this 10-mile trail circling the mountain built. This month sees a soft opening, with an official grand opening slated for the fall.
