The Newest Mountain Bike Trails Around the World [August 2020]

We round up the latest mountain bike trail openings around the world, including new bike parks and local neighborhood singletrack alike.

Junkyard Goat and Pine Run (Osage, Iowa): Junkyard Goat is a small trail system that features obstacles like a teeter totter and bridges, and was built on land that was formerly home to a junk yard. The Pine Run trails are rated for intermediate riders.

Soldier Mountain (Fairfield, Idaho): This bike park east of Boise, Idaho recently opened to rave reviews. The trails at Soldier Mountain were built through the volunteer efforts of the Wood River Trails Coalition and the Southwest Idaho Mountain Bike Association. There are hand cut, advanced trails and a machine-built jump trail that’s rated for expert riders.

The Forge: Lemont Quarries (Lemont, Illinois): The mountain bike trails at The Forge: Lemont Quarries actually opened to the public in July, built in an industrial area not normally associated with outdoor adventures. The property features five miles of trails plus a pump track and MTB skills course. Fee required.

Flow Family Trail (Ossitrol, Austria): Bikepark Lienz in Austria added a new mountain bike trail called Flow Family Trail for summer 2020.

Glenmore Pump Track (Calgary, Alberta): The Calgary Mountain Bike Alliance opened a serious pump track at Glenmore park this month, with seating for spectators and an asphalt riding surface.

Lower Flow Trail (Tuggerah, New South Wales): Ourimbah State Forest added a new beginner-friendly flow trail with berms and rollers known as Lower Flow Trail.

Mountain Dew and Jacob’s Ladder (Bennington, Vermont): Mountain bikers helped open two new trails in the Bennington Area Trail System (BATS). Mountain Dew is a descending trail on the north side of the network that was named after an old soda can that was found during trail work. Jacob’s Ladder is a climbing trail, named for trail volunteer Tom Jacobs.

St. Albans Town Forest (St. Albans, Vermont): The multi-use trails in St. Albans Town forest officially welcomed bikes on August 1.

Poley Mountain (Waterford, New Brunswick): The Poley Mountain ski area opened a bike park this year with four lift-served trails rated beginner to advanced.

Brown Drive Park (Ladysmith, British Columbia): While the official grand opening hasn’t happened yet, volunteers have the flowy trails and jumps ready to ride in Brown Drive Park.
