Trek’s Bontrager brand recently launched a clipless pedal mountain bike shoe called the Avert with a unique look and a feature set geared toward bikepackers and trail riders.

The Bontrager Avert features a suede and Cordura upper designed for both style and durability. The cushioned sole is said to offer good traction for hike-a-bike, and includes an SPD-compatible channel for a clipless pedal cleat.

With a lace enclosure, the Avert likely won’t offer as much security as a shoe with a dial-based system, or even a shoe with a hook-and-loop strap. An elastic lace keeper prevents shoe strings from getting snagged in the rider’s drivetrain.

Available in Sandstorm and Trek Black colorways, the Bontrager Avert shoe is priced at $174.99 and is available in men’s sizes only. More info and online purchasing available at Bontrager.
