Based on my conversation with GoPro at Interbike, we reported that “for late 2013 and into 2014, GoPro is actually not planning on producing any new hard products.” Well, either our PR contact didn’t know what he was talking about, I got the wrong impression somehow, or he just didn’t want any one news outlet to have the scoop.
An email just showed up in my inbox this morning “Introducing the new GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition.” According to GoPro, the new Hero3+ is 20% smaller than the previous version with a 30% increase in battery life. Boom! Those are both huge stats for a camera that’s already as small as the GoPro! GoPro also claims that the new camera “delivers improved image quality and powerful new features geared for versatility and convenience.”
Other new features also include SuperView, “a video mode that captures the world’s most immersive wide angle perspective,” Auto Low Light Mode, “Auto Low Light mode intelligently adjusts video frame rates based on lighting conditions for enhanced low-light performance,” and 4x faster wifi for streaming and previewing video straight to your smartphone. Finally, GoPro also announced a bevy of new mounts to help you get that perfect angle.
To see the camera in action, check out the video below, shot 100% with the Hero3+:

It seems like their product cycle is set up to release new models in late Sept./early Oct. but as delphinide mentioned, Interbike is too narrowly focused for them to use it as an opportunity to announce.
