Big Mountain Enduro (BME) has announced the 5-day Crested Butte Ultra Enduro, which, as you can tell from the above image, is the first backcountry enduro of this kind to be held in North America.
This 5-day epic will feature four days of heinously-difficult backcountry mountain biking, with the fifth day/stage held at Evolution Bike Park at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. The race course still hasn’t been finalized, but it is guaranteed to feature “big climbing transitions that will literally take you to the top of the world overlooking majestic peaks.”
According to BME, this race “is not for the faint of heart. . . .Most backcountry stages will start around 9,000 feet in elevation, some days climbing and topping out above 12,400 feet, so get your lungs (and cameras) ready. We anticipate 20,000+ total feet of descending over the course of five days. Expect to climb a good portion of that vertical, plan for full days on the bike, where you’ll need to be relatively self-supported and capable of navigating maps in remote areas.”
It’s no secret that Crested Butte is my favorite place in the world, and as a top choice on our Top 10 Mountain Bike Destinations in North America list, this 5-day serving of some of the best singletrack in the world guarantees to be mind-blowing!
The race, limited to 200 spots, goes on sale tomorrow night (January 15th) at 6pm MST, to the tune of $585. That cost includes “your shuttles each backcountry day, lift ticket on the final day at the Resort, coffee and beer provided each day by our respective sponsors, breakfast and lunch each day, BME Apparel Kit, awards ceremony, and an adventure experience of a lifetime.”
If you want a spot, you’d better get your credit card ready, because they’re sure to go fast!
